FOP and Navi both down all day. FP+ Wasted

This is what I heard...

The line was taking the multi experience FP that their FOP turned into and getting a fastpass for later in the week.

I read multiple say they waited in that line since the FP was only good until today. Most didn’t plan to come back today so they waited and got a paper pass for later in the week.

just being the voice of reason in the age of "I am special, give me something for free because I am making a bunch of noise".
I don't think that anyone wanting guest services to do something about a situation that WDW created is wrong. I'm sorry but they charge a lot and keep raising their prices for tickets so I expect that someone who went to AK specifically for Pandora would reasonably expect a newer ride to work. The fact that they obviously cheaped out putting both rides in same building, not having the right design to prevent so many fire alarms is their fault not the "special" guests'. I sincerely hope they are not building SW land so badly as people will be specifically going for that and will not be happy with rides down constantly. Compound this with the FP 60 days and ADRS 180 days in advance which only benefits WDW so they can also cheap out on staffing. If they did the FP digital but still day of then someone who had only wanted Pandora could just go to a different park and try again another day of their trip. But now they would have to try and move a bunch of hard to get FP around which is close to impossible with 7DMT and FEA and I suspect SDD (soon)so now what option do they have? Now I am not a proponent of the "give me stuff" mentality but they do need to something as they created this mess. So OP I'm glad you got to ride FOP and sorry the kids missed Navii and I feel sorry for all those guests in that line who may or may not have received anything satisfactory for the situation.

OP here.
We did get to ride today and it was great as expected. The FP line was longer than usual of course because of all the people from yesterday who were able to get back as we did. I do feel for all those that could not get back and for everyone who missed out on Navi which was still down today the whole time we were there. I don’t know if it ever came on.

I’m also glad that people were able to get paper passes for later. That answers my original question of what could guest relations do, so I or others might decide to try for that if a similar situation arises in the future. Though I doubt I would ever wait in a line as long as I saw yesterday.

Thanks to all who expressed sympathy for those of us in this situation. Your empathy was appreciated.

Maybe I am lost because I did not read through the whole thread but how did you have fastpasses for both in the same day? (Just curious.....)

I just saw that too. We go a week from today. I'm hoping they can get things worked out and back to normal operation. Design flaws suck.

I'll be at Animal Kingdom on Monday. I hope it's back up by then, as my daughter is coming on this trip and I was really hoping to share the new attractions at Disney with her. She's a busy adult, so I don't know when she'll be able to come back. (Her last trip was 7 years ago.)

The easiest way to think of an Anytime FP is as a Bonus, not a replacement. Disney gives you a Bonus/Appeasement/Anytime FP; you process the replacement of the FP of the downed ride.

If the downed FP was for one of your initial 3 FPs, you do need to “replace” it and use it so that you can move on to book FP#4 and so on while holding onto your Bonus.

Sorry to be dense -but just to clarify. Recently we had 3 FP booked in MK - used the first 2 and the third was for Haunted Mansion. It went down and I got the email about an anytime FP for the rest of the day. So we just picked a ride and walked on. What you're saying is that I could have taken the FP that I still saw listed in my MDE and changed it for another ride in MDE and that would have been my new 3rd FP, AND I would still have an anytime FP to use?

At the time I was concerned that changing the HM one that I could still see would then make me lose the anytime FP. Is there somewhere withing the MDE system that you can see you have an anytime FP waiting to be used? Thanks - sorry for the confusion.

They really need to come up with a permanent fix. It's one thing for a ride to be down because of weather or a random fluke. It's a whole different thing to have the 2 newest rides on property down for days at a time due to a KNOWN design flaw. Of course people will be upset, and rightfully so. Get it together Disney.

Yes. And as soon as you entered the line for FP#3, you could have booked #4 while still waiting to use the Anytime.

The Anytime is listed in the My Plans area of the app.

We have FP for the boat ride Sunday. I'm actually hoping its down so I don't have to disappoint my kids, lol!

This to me highlights a going concern for WDW.

If they continue to push pricing into space, they have to deliver.

It is Disney itself that is setting expectations. When they transitioned to the FP+ system with the 30/60/90 day advance booking window, they created an expectation that specific rides would be operating on specific dates in the future. IMHO, they have a greater obligation now to meet those increased expectations.

Thanks to all who understand my disappointment with the situation. But I can’t even guess how many thousand people were in the same boat.

I understand and I'm sorry for your disappointment, I would be too. I'm glad now that I have AK as my 3rd day of a 5 day trip next week and I have hoppers so I'll have a couple of shots of getting over there if this continues. I had to make it the 3rd day because I didn't think I would get FoP on my first day... so that's the bad part of all this forced micro pre-planning. o_O
