FOP and Motion Sickness

I suffer from pretty severe motion sickness but I was determined to ride FOP so I could experience what so many say the best ride they have ever been on. I took Dramamine an hour prior (I do anyway for all the parks). I managed to make it through half the ride before needing to close my eyes, and once I closed my eyes, I was fine. I was able to reopen a few times and felt fine afterwards. There is cool wind blowing on your face almost the whole time, which really helped. Anyway, I just wanted to give some of you hope. I got way more sick on Star Tours.

Interestingly, my DD who is 11 and does not suffer from motion sickness felt "weird" after FOP for about 30 minutes and we bought her a coke and let her rest in the shade.

This is good to know since my DH suffers from bad motion sickness as well. He is determined to take Dramamine too, but you don't find it makes you sleepy in the parks?

Bonine (generic is Meclizine) works really well for the ride issues and it does not make you sleepy. I take it for the parks and for cruises starting the first day and it definitely settles my inner ear very well and keeps the rocking and rolling you experience after a cruise(mal de mer) totally away. The tablets are very small and chewable. Helps so much.

I don't get motion sick, but I have felt odd after Mission Space and once on Soarin. I have ridden FOP once. The entire time, you are being handed warnings, and seeing warnings, and that always gets in my head. I was next to a couple who had ridden it a few times, and their advice was to relax, and just let it go. The breeze does help, and it seems the position on the ride vehicle helps a little. I hope you are able to ride it and enjoy it. I loved it.

I suffer from motion sickness and FOP didn’t bother me. Seems to affect everyone differently.

Yes I totally agree. 2 of my group who are not normally prone to motion sickness can't do FoP.

I have been on FOP three times, and like the OP, I close my eyes about a third of the way through, and then open again near the end. I can't take dramamine, as it makes me too sleepy, but I find smelling an alcohol pad after the ride is helpful, my problem is remembering to bring one.

I made it fine for 2 reasons:

The cool air constantly blowing in my face.
When the Banshee would stop for a few seconds before moving again that allowed me to "regroup"

If not for those 2 things,I probably would have went down for the count!lol:)

I had motion sickness as a child, but not at all as an adult.
I was SO SICK on FoP. I prayed from the first drop on that I would not vomit. Never again

I suffer from motion sickness and vertigo that has only gotten worse with age but the only time FoP made me sick was when I rode it four times in a row one day. It was so dumb because I knew I was pushing my luck on the third round but I couldn’t help it because it’s my favorite ride and the line was so short! I could barely drive home and I was sick to my stomach for 24 hours. Ugh.

The best advice I can give is to keep your eyes on the horizon if the dips are starting to make you dizzy, that always helps with me and ask to be on the lowest level when they start sorting the riders.

I'm not necessarily prone to motion sickness but Star Tours does make me a little iffy and I literally thought I might die on Mission Space Orange, but I had no issues with FoP! We loved that ride and wanted to go on it again, but we didn't want to wait in line...next trip. :-)

Adult dd and I both suffer from motion sickness. We both wore the patch for this ride (as it's the one thing I know really works for us). We were ok with the patch. But even then, I was rather glad it wasn't much longer, and I know without it, I would have been toast. We made an unscheduled 2nd visit to ride it again. I put on another patch, dd did not. I cannot remember if she took meclizine or not, but she was actually OK.

I dont normally take anything for motion sickness, but yes I too felt queasy after FOP. Its a great ride, but honestly never again.

I also have to avoid rides like Star Tours, Mission Space, EE (the backwards part makes me nauseous), as well as RnRc.

Hubby has way worse trouble with motion sickness than I do. He rode FoP once, and said he was very, very close to vomiting. He swears he will never ride it again.

FoP gives me much milder motion sickness, but I love it so much I ride it anyway, as many times as I can. I did twice in a row one time (using my own FP and then hubby's), and the second ride was a little worse than the first, but I still loved it.

I just had my Dr. write me a prescription for Scopolamine patches for my Jan trip. I wear one behind my ear to prevent motion sickness. Sometimes even the plane ride can trigger a little nausea, and the motion sim rides definitely get me! I bring chewable Bonine as back up.

I found FOP to be the worst ride I have EVER experienced in terms of motion sickness. I can do smaller roller coasters and Soarin with no problem. I can’t do things like Star Tours or Mission Space. Everything I read in advance said it was similar to Soarin. Not true! I believe I took a bonine that day but it didn’t help and the ride impacted me like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I had to close my eyes within the first minute just to get through it and because the seat is moving it is also very unpleasant to have your eyes closed.

But if I hadn’t closed my eyes I’m quite certain I would not have been able to function for the rest the day. Hate to worry anyone but it was much much worse than I expected!

I agree with you. I too found FOP to be pretty bad. I couldn't fully enjoy it because of the nausea. For me, im not even sure that closing my eyes really helps. But I do it anyway. Automatic reaction I guess.
