I see they offer( on past navigators) a foot print analysis in the spa, of course its during the sail away party. But i am wondering what is involved in it, is it free, how long does it take...and are they really just looking to sell you products.. thanks for any info

Yes, I think that whenever you go to the spa, you should be prepared for an up-sell of some kind. Even with the Rainforest Room, which is "self-service", they try to sell you the scrubs.

That having been said, I've always found that a polite "no" is all you need, and they don't push it further.

Yes, they will absolutely try to sell you something. On our last cruise, I got a pedicure and the pedicurist tried to sell me eye cream . . . It's non-stop selling in Senses. It made what was supposed to be a relaxing experience very annoying.

Haven't been on a DCL cruise yet but they have the same thing on Princess. DW actually uses an orthotic insert for her feet and swears by them. The entire point of the analysis is to sell you on a "custom" orthotic insert. They will show you where your feet make contact with ground, tell you what it should be and how an orthotic can help. I put custom in quotes because it's not really custom to you in particular, just an orthotic in a series that best fits with your issues. Similar to what a Good Feet store does. DW and I looked on land and the prices were a little cheaper on the ship and you don't pay tax.

ETA: it only takes a few minutes, the longest part is taking your shoes and sock off and putting them back on (unless your wearing flip flops )

I did this during our last cruise. They first offer it right after the spa raffle on day one, but they do it several more times throughout the journey. And it's not a complicated eval... If you want it done at any point, just ask the people in the gym. Basically, they ink a large pad and you walk, barefoot, over the paper. They then "analyze" your footprint by showing you where your foot is or isn't touching the paper. They also do a "balance test," where they show how, if you wear the special inserts they sell, they can't knock you off balance.

You can buy their product for about $300 or so.

I wonder if it's possible to "flag" yourself ahead of time at the spa, making it clear in advance that you do not want to be solicited. Again, I've always found a polite "no" does the trick, but I would not mind mooting the question in advance.

Somewhere - not sure if it was DCL or RCCL - I've read of people writing "NO SALES PITCH" on their release form and claiming that works.

The most ridiculous think anyone ever tried to seel me in my life happened on a cruise. I went for a massage and the masseuse tried to convince me that I was retaining water around the abdomen but two drops of her special oil applied anywhere on the body once a day would take care of it and I would have a flat belly lol I had to explain to the poor girl that this was not water, but fat. And neither her oil or anything else short of surgery was going to give me a flat stomach.
