You Would Eat - But Ended Up Loving!

For me, it's gotta be Boiled Peanuts!! I grew up in Western New York in the 50'-70's. When I moved to Florida in the early 70's, I was introduced to road side vendors selling Boiled Peanuts. What?? Were they crazy? You DON'T boil peanuts!!! Therefore, just the thought was discusting and I refused to try them. After about 20 years of cajoling by my husband (Florida born and raised) I finally agreed to try just one! Hmmmmm.....not bad! Maybe I need to try another?? Soon, I discovered I had eaten the whole cup of <gasp> boiled peanuts!! That slowly progressed into learning the fine art of boiling peanuts at home. It's really quite easy, and quite delicious! Now, I've discovered my local grocer sells Cajun Boiled Peanuts in 5lb bags in the frozen food section. (Cajun seasoned are my favs) So, all I need to do is pour a desired amount into my crock pot, cover with water & turn to high until heated through. What a delicacy!!

So....what is it that you once thought you would never eat...but now enjoy as often as you can? (Another of my favs is smoked mullet)

Being born and raised in FL, I love me some bolied peanuts!!

As a child, asparagus is something I thought I would NEVER, EVER eat. Now that I'm all grown up , I could eat my weight in that stuff. I have tried some of the animals DH has hunted and killed, but I like my processed meats better.

Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, heart, liver, and other scraps.

Much like the types of scraps in hotdogs and bologna except without the chicken lips.

I didnt like tomatoes when I was a kid, now I love them. My favorite is sliced over cottage cheese with salt and pepper and a little bit of bacon bits.

Brussle sprouts make me vomit.

The first and only time I had scrapple, I was visiting BIL in central PA. Some of his buddies lived in the hills and processed their own pigs. BIL fried up slices of scrapple for breakfast and served them. He suggested eating it like french toast with syrup, so that's what I did. It wasn't the best thing I ever ate, but wasn't the worst either. But later when I found out what it was, I almost puked. Guess it's not my thing. Of course, when ya have Publix up the street filled with tasty treats, I don't need to resort to scrapple. But I can understand why it was invented back in a day when the only food you had was the food you raised, grew or killed. And at the rate things are going in this country, maybe scrapple will make an appearance on my table again some day.
