Foods You Never Thought

Just had those with dinner tonight, SORRY!

My Mom used to make us eat them even though she knew I hated them, they literally make me gag so I used to swallow them whole as fast as I could. Its one of the reasons I never forced my kids to try anything, I encouraged it but never required them to try things.

Sushi

Could you imagine, when you were a kid and you sat down at the supper table. You see the Sushi on your plate (????), have no idea what it is, so you ask your mom what is it, then you say, "You want me to eat THAT !!??"

Oh yes, and liver loaf/liver cheese/braunsweiger or whatever you want to call it, on white bread with mayo & onion. For some reason my wife doesn't want to give me a kiss afterwards.

Scott, I think our mothers are sisters!! :lmao: Mine did the same thing to me and I would literally gag on them. I never could get them down, though. I went without dessert and/or tv every night we had them for dinner. I haven't been brave enough to try them again as an adult. Maybe someday.

But I just found out recently that I LOVE guacamole!!! I wouldn't touch it ever before until one of my friends made me try it a few months ago.

Groundhog,,we grew up on groundhog.
My moma cooked a awesome gravied groundhog ever, fall off the bone tender.

Groundhog, where's my BS detector? I need to find out if you're being serious. Can you tell I grew up in New England? And no, I'm not a Lib.

Frank grew up eating as if Daniel Boone was his Daddy. If it didn't eat you first, he ate it.

Rattlesnake

I had a roommate from Opp, AL in college and they had something called the rattlesnake rodeo. I don't mind snakes and keep my distance from the venomous ones, the others I just might pick up. However, snake and gator taste pretty much alike. The movie "My Cousin Vinny" was more real to me than you will ever know. I have never laughed so hard in my entire life as when I saw that movie!

How about taking a bottle of Coke and taking a sip and dumping in a little bag of salted peanuts. My parents were from OK and Dad would sometimes do that. The one that loved it was my uncle. His choice was a strawberry pop with peanuts. YUMMO? popcorn::

Being born and raised in FL, I love me some bolied peanuts!!

As a child, asparagus is something I thought I would NEVER, EVER eat. Now that I'm all grown up , I could eat my weight in that stuff. I have tried some of the animals DH has hunted and killed, but I like my processed meats better.

Same here on the asparagus growing up, but now we love it coated in olive oil and broiled and served with fish. Three other favorites now that were avoided at least by me is steamed broccoli again with fish, brussel sprouts with pineapple burgers and mac and cheese, and finally lima beans with meat loaf ... here you put the meat loaf in a pan surround it with lima beans and then put some ketchup over the meatloaf and lima beans and then bake. I then like to dowse the lima beans with some hot sauce before eating and the side is mashed potatoes and white gravey made with beef stock. Three remaining things I still won't eat are cooked spinach and carrots or peas, but I do love a spinach salad with crumpled blue cheese and zesty Italian dressing. I love raw carrots, just not cooked and can tolerate candied carrots, but will pass if given the choice. When growing up two things that were served together were cooked mustard greens and black eyed peas, neither of which I cared for and haven't eaten in the last 46 years since I left home.

Man I'm getting hungry now for the corned beef that is boiling and can't wait for the CB, cabbage, onions and potatoes that is on the menu tonight.

I didnt like tomatoes when I was a kid, now I love them. My favorite is sliced over cottage cheese with salt and pepper and a little bit of bacon bits.

Brussle sprouts make me vomit.

Boil them and put a little vinegar and pepper on them and they are good IMO.

I HATE lima beans. Always have, always will. White paste in a shell - that's what lima beans are. YUK!

Well the only way I will eat them is they way I described since they soak up the juices of the meatloaf and what little grease there is and don't really taste at all like lima beans normally do which I also won't eat. They are tender, juicy, somewhat crunchy and really you have to try them like I have found I like them. This is sort of like Okra ... steamed or boiled it's snot, but battered and deep or pan fired is fantastic. It's all about the prep and this also goes to what I found out about the asparagus since boiled or steamed I don't think I would like it, but broiled with a little crunch and the oilve oil and pepper flavor makes them very delicious.

LOL, Larry! You can have my share of lima's!! I wouldn't desecrate a perfectly good meat loaf with lima's or ketchup!

My home is a house divided by lima's. My DH loves them & I hate them. Since I do 99.9% of the cooking, he don't get no stinkin' lima beans unless he goes running home to his mama!:lmao:

We're also divided by liver. I love it, he hates it. Our house is a "lima and liver free zone".

LOL I can understand where you are coming from but again it's all about in how you prepare and cook the stuff. The ketchup is lightly put on the top of the meat loaf in a sort of line pattern so you have that slightly tangy tomato flavor on the top and the rest of the meatloaf is unaffected by the little ketchup on the top and then the lima beans get covered about 50% or so with a good dose of ketchup and about 1/2 way thu baking you stir the lima beans around to get them into the ketchup and meatloaf drippings and then finishing baking everything. In the end the lima beans are in sort of a tomato type sauce that you make and then you spoon those juices over them when served.
