Foods that you refuse to purchase for your family

I only buy free range eggs and won't buy the other kinds...just for the quality of life for the chicken. I would love to only buy free range meat too but I can't afford that.

I read somewhere that free range doesn't really mean what we think it does:sad2:

Lunchables - I think they're disgusting and my kids only want them for the dessert anyway!

I won't buy lunchables, frozen kids meals or frozen meals aside from the WW/Lean Cuisine ones for DH and myself or prepackaged balogna! (Spelled that wrong, I know!)

Those Frozen Lasagna meals or other meals just gross me out. I don't see the point and I can't imagine they are even remotely close to having decent levels of fat and stuff. No point in the kids frozen meals with chicken fingers or mac and cheese. It's just too expensive really ... why not get a huge bag of real chicken fingers and make some mac and cheese!!

We do not have any strict eating habits AT ALL. DS eats a lot of fruit, dairy and protien. He has snacks, probably on a daily basis honestly. He drinks sippy cups that are 95% water with a splash of OJ and milk. When we go out we let him have a kids cup of sprite/sierra mist. Ocassionaly he will have a juice box (either Mott's for Tot's 50/50 or a 100% real fruit juice box). Aside from the sugar content his tummy can't handle the straight juice because he's not used to it. He eats sugar free popsicles, probably one every few days with DH. He eats real fruit snacks, probably one small bag a day when we are out and about (yes, I bribe him sometimes with them!!) I am probably on the worst mom's thread but he's healthy as a horse, tries everything food wise, eats dinner at the table with us and eats what we eat, uses his utensils properly 75% of the time, says Please and Thanks without being asked much of the time ... think I am doing a decent job! :-)

(Why do I feel the need to defend my lack of perfect eating style on a public board!!!! :lmao:)

I don't know that I absolutely *refuse* to buy anything for my family, but I very rarely buy sodas, chips or other high calorie/no nutrition foods. None of us needs them and if they are in the house *I* am the one who tears into them. DD16 only eats when she's hungry (*what a concept!) and she only eats healthy stuff(shes a dancer.) DD14 loves all food and would certainly eat himself into oblivion if I let him, so I restrict him to healthy snacks. I buy a lot of fruit, granola bars, fig newtons, multi-grain crackers, cheeses, and Horizon milk.

I won't buy anything organic if I can help it. I don't avoid HFCS, but mostly we eat high fiber high protein and veggies.

Bought lots of chicken breasts at Costco today for salads and such, could care a rat's patootie if they were free range or not.

Funny about the bourbon. DD drinks wine with us almost every night. Far better for her than juice boxes and sodas.

A lot of canned vegetables. There's a couple I do but, like creamed corn and green beans, but most others I won't buy.

prepared salad dressing: we have canola/soybean allergies in the house and it tastes better homemade anyway.

Lunch meat: but only because no one likes it.

:eek:Really? Or kidding?

I don't buy beef--we only eat venison, its free cause dh is a hunter. I also buy in moderation chips, pop, lunchables. More like once in a great while. I try not to buy juice boxes that aren't 100% juice. About once a year, the sugar water makes its way home though. :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 I"m with you. I don't buy organic either. I am perfectly fine with the safety of our food and I'm not going to argue with anyone else about it. I very seldom cook with canned or processed foods, almost all fresh. And in the summer almost everything comes out of my garden (which IS pesticide-free.) We garden because it's so much cheaper than buying fresh. Plus I can up what we don't eat so we can eat it in the winter.:goodvibes

We also offer our DD16 occasional wine with dinner( I think we started this when she was about 14) . Wine, especially red wine, has a lot of antioxidents in it and is very good for your health in small quantities. It also does not promote weight gain, unlike juice which can really raise blood sugar. No reason to drink your calories. DD has a BMI of about 17, so she must be doing something right.

Chilean Sea Bass (man is that expensive!)
expensive salmon (unless on sale, otherwise we buy the "farm raised"), filet mignon under the glass nicely prepared (unless on sale),
duck, lamb chops (unless I am buying at SAMS), large prawns, and large scallops (not the tiny ones).

I need a bigger grocery budget to buy what I want to prepare. So it is not so much a "refusal" to buy foods, as it is a refusal to pay 30.00/lb for Chilean Sea Bass.

Plus all the other fancy oils and ingredients I would love to have freshly stocked daily. Well, just not going to happen at this point in time.:confused3

I don't buy real sour cream, anything except fat free milk, and unless we're having a party, no chips, dips, or soda. By the time they tried real bacon and sausage, they were so used to the light versions, that they didn't like them (I have to remind them when we go out for breakfast that it's not the kind I make at home). Edited to add, no juice boxes - the only juice we have is oj, and apple cider seasonally.

I will not buy

- any raw flesh of any type :scared:
- any eggs that are not 'vegetarian fed'.

Anything else is fair game!

Well to be honest, I just clicked on this thread to see if there was any beagle pictures!:goodvibesand there was.
