Hi all,

Good news!! Nan will still need an operation, BUT, it will be AFTER our trip to DLP - which means, I can now officially start getting excited and planning things!!

First stop - FOOD!!

On our first night I am torn between Café Mickey and Inventions... I, personally, am swaying towards Inventions - BUT - Mum has reservations about it purely as she was totally unimpressed by the food during our last visit. Has anybody ate in Inventions recently? If so, how did you find the choice and quality? I know that it has been a bit hit and miss before and I agree with Mum that the quality wasn't as good as it was during my previous visits...

The aim of the trip is to get a photo with Nan and Mickey Mouse on our first evening as a proper welcome to Disney for her. :cloud9:

Thats great news Adam. Now the planning can start in earnest.

Do you think your Nan would prefer being served her meal rather than a buffet or do you think she would prefer a buffet so she can have lots of bits of things/try things to see if she likes them/just get what she wants ?

Also you are only guaranteed to see Mickey at Cafe Mickey

I'm so pleased! :goodvibes Well, not that your Nan still has to have an operation but that it will be after the holiday - hopefully it will give her some great memories to help her recover quickly.

We ate at Inventions recently and the food was absolutely delicious. :cloud9: Would Nan prefer to choose something off the menu or is she quite happy with a buffet? Although if the most important thing is getting a photo of her with Mickey might it be better go to Cafe Mickey? I know it's not cast in iron but it's pretty much a given that Mickey always appears there - I'm not sure about Inventions although having looked at our photos he's been there each time we've been.

:cool1::banana::cheer2:
Great news about your Nan. I've got no idea about the food choices as we've never eaten at either however I have considered both for our August trip. Coming from a different view point completely Inventions does seem very expensive for a character meal but then again CM has had some extremely dire reviews for their food and service. I guess a lot comes down to your budget, I've decided that Inventions dinner is too expensive to justify for what is after all just another character meal, CM could be done 'on the cheap' and the extra money diverted to another meal/gifts/treats. Having 3 boys Auberge is out but I wonder if your Nan would like it (awkward moments aside!)
I'm sure you'll have a great time regardless - after all it wasn't that long ago that you thought you wouldn't be able to go at all.
Ps see you on the Eurostar 28/8?!

Thank you! I am excited now I am able to start fully planning!! :surfweb:
That's actually a very good point... as much as table service would be good for Nan in her current condition - part of me can't help but think she'd be better being able to pick and choose bits from the buffet (she prefers picking at food than eating huge meals)....

With regards to Mickey, worse comes to worse if we don't get a photo with Nan and him on the first night, we could always just queue in a meet and greet the next day... Not really a majour panic, just would be nice... :goodvibes

Thanks Elaine!! I am really happy that Nan will be able to see DLP. She is going to be in AWE!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed the food at Inventions purely because I already know I want that to be the first meal of the holiday for Nan... but I need enough people backing me on here to show Mum that it really will be fine LOL :rotfl:

Thank you!! !:goodvibes It is a bit expensive, I know, but it will be the only time Nan ever visits the resort so I want to do it in as much style for her as possible... I just want her to be in constant awe of the place (which I know she will).

Your boys may like Auberge?! My Dad loved it and he's a typical bloke...
:rotfl2: I just hope I never have another awkward moment in there again... but unfortunately that's not the ONLY place in DLP that I have these moments, I am on constant guard whilst over there :rotfl:

You most definately will see me on the Eurostar on the 28/8 - that's when I will be visiting with my friend!

Aww i'm so pleased for you and your nan that you can still go on your trip. :)

I have never eaten at ineventions but i have lots of times at cafe Mickey and on each trip I have seen Mickey there, as Elaine said it's not a gauranteed thing that he will be there but I always have. :thumbsup2

Cant help as regards meals as Ive not eaten in Inventions yet but I just wanted to say Im so happy that your Nan can make the trip. Did you ask which she would prefer?

Lol @ the awkward momentS! Adam you are terrible!! Have visions of you helping you Nan up Main St and it being one long walk of shame (its been renamed the walk of fair play to ya here!) much more apt

Thank you Karen!!! I am sooooo happy now! We will need to take it easy as she's had a bit of minor surgery, but I am just so glad she can finally see the magic for herself. That's enough to cheer ANYBODY up :wizard:

Yay! Me too, I was smiling from ear to ear when I heard that she can actually make the trip with us! I'm not going to ask Nan anything purely as it want it all to be surprising and planned out for her... if that makes sense? :surfweb:

Oh dear as awful as it sounds... you're not too far from the truth there! Main Street USA really is my walk of 'fair play' (I like that) :rotfl2: Albeit on a good day I like to call it my "search for hidden mickeys" :cutie:

Whilst I'm still holding my head up high... :rotfl: .... does anybody know if you need (or can make) reservations for Blue Lagoon?? :confused3

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: thats hilarious!
If im right I think Lolas Tr said she had made a reservation for the Blue Lagoon.
Is it a complete surprise for your Nan?

Hmmm I'll speak to her and then throw my demands in when I phone up :rotfl:

Nan knows about the trip - but she has no idea where she's staying or anything like that... to be fair, she's never really seen pictures of the resort anyways so it's best that everything is left to the eye when she gets there :cutie:

I think you are going to be just as excited as your Nan when you take her to The Magic Adam :goodvibes:goodvibes

Elaine you know me too well! From the moment I step on the Eurostar at St Pancras to the moment I leave to come home, I am just constantly smiling and in awe of everything... let's hope it's contageous!

Looks like I've missed half of your food planning chat, how did that happen?! Yes you can make reservations for Blue Lagoon I have both times I've been, and there is usually a queue of chance tables so you are better to book.
I've never been to Inventions but I'm pretty anti-buffet. Don't know why, I just don't enjoy a meal in the same way - so sorry Adam but my vote goes to Cafe Mickey :P
Just think about your Nan - would she prefer buffet or table service? The pretty surroundings of DLH at Inventions or fun atmosphere of Cafe Mickey? I'm guessing you get just as good character interaction at Inventions so really its more about the style of the food and restaurant.
I'm so excited for you and your Nan! I'm suffering post DLP blues knowing that this time last week I was on the Tower of Terror :( so I need to help you plan every last detail of your trip.

Lisa my lovely, I knew if I titled this "FOOD!" that you'd arrive at some point or another!! :lmao:

I know for a fact your favourite place in the entire world is Blue Lagoon and no trip for you in complete without it - but can non-fish lovers (yes, they do exist I'm afraid hun) enjoy a meal there too?

Oh bless ya! You feel free to join in and help plan as much as you see fit - as you've just got back, you're an invaluable font of knowledge to me! :rotfl:

Don't use the ToT word around me please... it's my favourite attraction in the resort but I could be sacraficing it (as there's no way Nan will be able to ride) on this visit... I am limited to POTC, PM and IASW this time round I'm afraid :sad1: still... in August I'll make up for it

Ive TOT blues too! Missing it badly:sad2:
You better take LOADS of pics of your Nans reaction to the beautiful DLH!
So looks like CM kinda has the edge over Inventions. Im between two minds for our November trip on those two aswel. I think it'll probably be CM but DS would be free in Inventions and I love a bargain :goodvibes

Oh yes - plenty for the unfishy at blue lagoon. Aimee is actually allergic to fish she loved the veal. And Katie said ostrich was awesome too. You'll all love it!
Couldn't you have a quick go on tot while the ladies enjoy a brioche or some such?! ;)
