I am so excited my wedding is approaching. One thing that i would love to know anout is what everyones's menues were or are? pre-reception or reception, brunch, desert party whatever. I think itf there is good food and good music everyone is happy.
hope to hear about all the yummy treats :yay:

Good Idea!!

Pre reception:
Mini Crab quesadilla's
Chicken skewers with a peanut dipping sauce
Bacon wrapped scallops

(all passed)

Reception:

Salad - seared sea scallops with watercress and preserved lemon confit
Entree - Macademia nut encrusted tilapia with mango salsa, beef filet with panko and blue cheese crust, potatoes pave, and seasonal veggies

Cake: Can you tell we love chocolate?
bottom layer: Marble with white chocolate filling
Second layer: Marble with milke chocolate filling
third layer: Chocolate with Peanut butter filling
fourth layer: Marble with milk chocolate filling
anniversary layer: chocolate with peanut butter filling

(My opinion on the cake was that the peanut butter was the best, the white chocolate was really good, but the milk chocolate just wasn't my favorite!!)

I was a little disappointed with the reception food. It tasted much different than it did at the tasting and they changed some of the menus. For example, the potatoes pave was so so good at the tasting but it seemed like the changed it. Also, it tasted like they had our food sitting in warmers for a while therefore got a little old tasting.

The food was very good overall :thumbsup2

thanks i am glad you liked this idea!!
i was wondering about the cake with all the diffrent flavors how does the guest get the layer they want? is it passed or do they cut it and place it on a table?

i am sorry about your food. sadly, i think is is common with catering. But, i am gald you enjoyed it overall

Mine was a reception at home...but here's our wedding luncheon menu...

Passed yummies:
Mini potato pancakes with sour cream and chives
Mini veggie empanadas
Mini goat cheese pizzas

Buffet meal:
Vegetable tart with roasted tomato, zuchini and feta cheese on top of puff pastry.
Vegetarian chili
Macaroni and cheese (adult style with gruyer cheese, and penne pasta)
Corn bread muffins
Salad with arugula, spring veggies, and raspberry vineagrette

Dessert table:
apple spice cupcakes
Carrot cake cupcakes
chocolate mocha cake
rice crispy treats
macaroons
chocolate macaroons
short bread cookies
raspberry cookie bars
chocolate vanilla cream filled cookies
Vanilla chocolate filled cream cookies
oatmeal white chocolate chip cookies
peanut butter filled cookies
and...more cookies that I can't remember at the moment:3dglasses
Groom's cake was an apple pie
And served along side iced cold milk. :cutie:

Yeah, I do think its a pretty common thing with catering..oh well! The guests really enjoyed it!!

What happened with us is that we cut the cake and then the took it away to the back area somewhere and tore off the fondant and served to peoples places. I think the guests got what they got (flavor wise). I asked for the peanut butter for the bridal head table, but I believe the rest of the guests were served the bottom layer first and then on from there!!

Moonpie - your food sounded awesome..I love the idea for an apple pie!!

o ok, sounds good about the cake thing. All the food sounds great so far i dont know how i am goign to pick

For our reception we had 4 food stations. What I ate was really good and I heard from several people the food was great. They set up two food stations on one side of the room and the other 2 on the other side of the room.

Our reception food:

Asian
Vegetable egg rolls with spicy dipping sauce
Lo Mein noodles with stir fried fresh vegetables
Sweet & Sour duck
Shrimp fried rice
Crispy Szechwan Style Vegetables

Latin
Roasted multi coulored corn salad with cilantro pesto
Cheese Enchiladas and roasted garlic chili
Refried black beans, corn tortillas and queso fresco
Adobo braised pork tenderlon, salsa fresco
Suateed chicken with penne pesta, pesto, pine nuts.

Parmesan
Hummus with Mediterranean Flatbreads
Basil Marinated Cherry Tomato and fresh mini mozzarella ball salad
platter of salami and capicollo
Couscous with saffron vegetables and braised lamb

European
Grilled German Sausages, Sauerkraut Garni with grain mustard
Crisp Potato Pancakes with chunky apple sauce
English Style battered Haddock, tartar sauce

Selection of international cheeses with breads and fresh fruits

For pre-reception we had:
Cajun beef kabobs
Coconut chicken tenders with horseradish marmalade dipping sauce
Beef and blue cheese meatballs wrapped in bacon
Cheese display

those foods all sound amazing. i love cheese and it looks like there are lots of coices with it.

were the stations complicated or is it run like a bufet?

It was really good food and it worked out well because of the variety. It gave our guests lots of options. If someone couldn't find at least one thing they would like to eat then they were crazy. I am a pickey eater so I loved it. They food stations are like buffets. Since there were 4 different areas the lines were not that long. I think they just let everyone get up to get the food when they wanted. I don't think they did it by tables. My DH & I had someone help us. Someone held my plate while I loaded it up with food and then carried back to our table. I posted some photos below.
