Looking at the map for the Full, it looks like there will be 4 food stations along the course. For you Full Marathon vets, what have been your experiences with what is served there? I have been training using GU or Cliff Shots every few miles, and I know that's what we were given once during the Half last year, but I seem to remember hearing about bananas too during the Full. So what have been your experiences?

Trying to figure out what to bring with me out there!

Thanks in advance!!!

Banana at 13 and 19 - Oranges also some years - Banana can be green - look to see that you are getting the ripeness you want
Cliff Shots at 16 and 19 - Watch out for weird flavors
Candy at 23 - Chocolate the last few years was sprees .
Sponges at 17.5 coming out of AK. Keep it as long as you can. You will welcome the cool wipe as you face the sun on Osceola.

I have only done the full 1 time so I am not exactly sure of all the food given out. I do know that there was Cliff Shots wherever it is noted on the map that they have that. Then there are bananas - I want to say it was on the road to AK by the wastewater area - I don't do bananas during or after a run as they make me sick so i could be wrong about the location of them. Then on the out and back on Osceola there are spectators lining the road giving out goodies - someone had Skittles last year and I didn't really care fo Skittles too much but they were like heaven out there - I love Skittles now. LOL then somewhere in the back of MGM there is usually tables full of Hershey's chocolate - I want to say around mile 23. Hope that helps and good luck

Always use caution when accepting open foodstuff or drink from non-race sponsored folks I know that know one would do anything bad at Disney but all it takes is one person to ruin your race or worse.

Not saying that I have never taken something from the side of a marathon but you really need want to be sure.

Look for the folks with LimeGreen Shirts yelling at mile 23.6 if you wnat open food.

I did forget that on Osceola most year the HHH are out with their red cups. You really got to be in the 4:30 range or faster to grab a cup of brew.

Being a back of the packer, I would recommend taking provisions you are used to having. Often times they have run out of things. Last year no sponges, no chocolates and only a couple packets of cliff stuff, but I learned from prior experience so was not dependant on what I missed.

HAHAHAHAHA I thought that sponges were little energy cakes that they gave you. Like a healthy twinkie!

The Skittles were in a closed package - the little trick or treat size bags. There were some WISH folks out there as well in the same area giving out pretzals and Twizzlers. But thanks for the warning.

I don't care for the Cliff shots so I bring my own of that. I might also bring a few fruit roll ups. I like them better then the fruit chews and I have used them before on my long runs without a problem (granted it was on the TM but I know I won't have a problem opening it on the run - only problem is waiting for a garbage can since I don't like to litter)

Great point on littering.....

I try to throw used gel packs at the trash cans in the aid stations..... not always successfully but at least in the area. I hate to see gel packs on the road inbetween stations.:confused3

I know its not at WDW as its a single loop course, but in races when you go out and back or the 1/2 marathon share the biggest problem for me is the water cups on the road. Hit one of them at speed and you either get hit in the face with it or your wheel will slide.

I always bring all my own shots and drinks.

This is exactly what I remember too. And I'm sorry, but chocolate at mile 23... ICK! Talk about the LAST thing I want at that point.:rotfl:

Definitely. Not to mention that you don't want to try anything too "new" on race day.

I am allergic to chocolate and caffiene so I think I am going to have to take my own supplies of candy and gu. The last thing I want is to go into anaphylactic shock at mile 21!

I love having skittles and gummy bears while I run so I think that will be my food substance if choice. I am not sure if bananas or oranges will stay down at that point!

Agreed ! I liked the sprees - you can keep the chocolate

I enjoyed the chocolate but then again I like chocolate. But I got burnt out last year on the chocolate Cliff Shots - talk about yuck and thick!! I prefer Spree's as well. Maybe they will have a little of both. But yeah the best option is to bring your own.

Thanks a lot for all the response, everyone! I will bring a few GUs with me just in case. I'll look for the Spree too, at mile 23!

Brian,
too bad you weren't here last year. They had Lobster at mile 9, Kobe beef at mile 13, Tequila shots at mile 28 (much needed) and Red Bull at mile 23 (option to mix in a shot of Jagermeister for a Jager Bomb). We didn't need these wimpy Gels and things people use now. My how things have changed in this tight economy.

Veterans, I am missing a couple of stops, do you remember any or the other exotic items from last year?

enjoy,
Duane

Just to be sure, what are you training with. I know there are a few European brands you will not find here.
