I don't know if we missed all of the good restaurants or if being from Texas has a lot to do with it, but nowhere that we ate, were we impressed with the food. We did two character meals and thought the food was just okay. We went to Concourse and the steak was medicore (I am sure that is because I am in Texas) and all of the other places we visited were just not impressive. I did like several of the items at Hollywood and Vine, yet I was really not that impressed with the food.

The only Disney food I ever really enjoyed were the dinners on the cruise and even still, that was not like eating out at home.

I'm moving to Texas! There are a few not so good places in WDW, but even those are better than most of the stuff we have here. Even if the food is just mediocre down there we have always had good service which makes up for it. Something we definately don't often get at home.

::MickeyMo Sorry to hear that most of your food was mediocre. It may have been the restaurants you tried. DBF and I go to Disney for the food as well as the fun. The food definitely gives us something to look forward to. We had done Concourse Steakhouse and loved it. The buffets aren't as good as the other "served" restaurants. Maybe next time try some of the table service restaurants in the countries in Epcot. We find them to be exceptional. We also adore Fulton's in DTD. ::MinnieMo

I think the food in WDW is good overall but you need to know where to eat. If you are looking for good food, avoid the character meals. There are a couple of good buffets but plenty of fine sit down restaurants.

And frankly, I have been to Texas and I am in no hurry to go back. I'll give Texans one thing, they are a proud lot. I haven't met one who didn't think everything in Texas is better than elsewhere. More power to you......

Well, if you only ate at the buffets, then you're only going to get buffet food. Even at DisneyWorld, all be it "nice" buffet food. And of all the sit down restaurants at DisneyWorld, even though I think the Concourse is a nice restaurant, it's the kind of place we used when we rolled into the Contemporary worn, with two little kids trailing behind, just wanting food of some type and then relax. Not where I would especially go for a nice sit down meal at Disney World.

I would watch the boards and note which ones are the favorites around here. We love eating out at Disney World!!! And we have better food way up here in Wisconsin/Minnesota too than the Disney buffets and the Concourse, I would imagine all the states do. At least I would hope so. ;)

I underdstand what you are saying, coming from an Italian mother and living in NY, I have really hard time liking any type of Italian and usually just stay away from it, especially pizza! That said I usually have at least one really good meal, not always gourmet at WDW each visit. I really liked the fried chicken at the Hoop Dee Doo and 50s Prime Time and always enjoy a meal at LeCelliere.

Hey LAWalz23, isn't the fried chicken at Hoop-Dee-Doo great! Did you know the same chicken can be found right next door at the Trail's End Buffeteria. It is quietly the least expensive and one of the tastiest buffets in WDW.....they serve the chicken at both lunch and dinner.

::MickeyMo Sigh. Just thinking of LeCellier makes my mouth water. Teppanyaki (the hibachi) is also excellent, and you get a lot of food! One "family style/buffet" meal that is excellent is the dinner at LTT. ::MinnieMo

Hi Luv4Disney & thanks. I will tell you, I have tried food in EPCOT at the different countries and did not like it. The Mexican food is a joke (I am from Texas after all) and the Italian food was yuck. I grew up eating the real stuff, so perhaps that is why I feel that way.

Also, maybe being in Jersey makes food down south better? I don't know. Just a small example....I was in NY last week on business and it cost 6 of us $1300 :earseek: for a steak and lobster dinner at Uncle Jack's. It was good, but not great. I can go to Saltgrass or Texas Road House here for $25 and get a filet mignon that is out of this world. On the few occassions I have been to NJ or NY, I was not at all impressed with the food and it made me homesick for some Mexican.

I quite enjoyed all my meals at Disney but then again I didn't have to prepare it, serve it or wash the dishes afterwards. Oh yes we were also on the free dining.

Thanks LAWalz23...I have always wanted to try both Prime Time and LeCellier, so I think I will do one of those on my next visit.

Didn't really mean it to be hateful or snotty....more humorous than anything. And actually, I think it's a strong and loyal trait I have observed in people from Texas.

And by the way, you now have also shot down the cuisine from New York and New Jersey....not to mention WDW. Only a few more states to go! :teeth:

Well, most people here think I am from NY, oddly enough. I am always in a hurry and don't fit in with the typical slowness of Texans.

Well, I would not say I shot it down. I actually love going up North, but the flavor is just not the same. Prefer the people, just not the cuisine I suppose. Except the pizza. NY has the best pizza - EVER!!!!

DH and I enjoy most of our meals at WDW, but have not experienced anything close to fine dining (and we can buy better food for half the price locally, but we are willing to pay extra for the Disney magic!). From reading the DIS boards, it sounds like the true fine dining experiences are at the fanciest resort restaurants, not at the parks. California Grill, Victoria and Alberts, and Citricos come to mind

I'll have to say we've noticed a decline in the past couple of years in the quality of the food at Disney restaurants. Concourse Steakhouse use to be wonderful, but we went this summer and it was HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! There are still some wonderful places to dine, but we were disappointed with many of our "old faves." For instance, Chefs de France...went there for lunch and it was so very mediocre. I got the quiche and it was dried up. Had the same quiche several years ago and it was fantastic. Beaches and Cream...use to have the best burger on property. NOPE! They changed the burgers to the square, pathetic theme park type burgers. Even Le Cellier wasn't as good as usual. Or, maybe I'm only saying that because they froze us to death. It was like 55 degrees in there and we were miserable. Had to run outside about every 10 minutes to warm up.

However, we had wonderful good at Blue Zoo and CA Grille this summer.
Oh, and San Angel.

I have some advice. Try the restaurants at the Swan and Dolphin. They have excellent food - Shulas, Kimonos, Garden Grove (breakfast), Blue Zoo, Fresh (breakfast), Palio. We're going again over Thanksgiving, staying at the Dolphin and we're booked for the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Dolphin Ballroom.

::MickeyMo Hey, no need to dis Jersey. Our food is just fine up here. We just happen to really like the food down there. We never did eat at Mexico, though. ::MinnieMo

Oh, I am not dissin' NJ - I promise. I think the difference is just the way the food is cooked and the seasonings used. Maybe it is my Italian heritage, being married to a Hispanic and being able to cook myself that makes me so darn picky. :teeth:

At WDW you have to pick and choose your restaurants wisely. Most of the extremely popular family style restaurants talked about on these message boards, have, imho, some of the worst food on disney property.

You have to remember there are people from all walks of life on these message boards, some are used to really special food, some are not. For some people disney is the only "fine" dining they will ever have. For others it is a common occurance to eat at fine restaurants. Food is very subjective, so always take all reviews with a grain of salt and judge for yourself later.

That is true anywhere you go, including texas. We lived in Colleyville, and yes, even in TX, it just depends on where you go and what you order.
