Food prices at store in Ft. Wilderness

Hi campers! I just booked 7 nights in a Ft. Wilderness cabin in January 2011 - can't wait!! I would have loved to get a camp site for my RV, but driving it from Buffalo, NY in the dead of winter is probably not a good idea - so the cabins are the next best thing.

My question for you seasoned Ft. Wilderness vets is... how expensive is the food in the store? I am thinking of shipping down some dry goods (snacks, pancake mix, pasta and sauce, etc.) and then buying milk, eggs, bacon, bread, soda, etc. at the store. Do they have any fresh fruit? We're planning on making breakfast each day in the cabin and maybe making two or three dinners to cut down on food expenses.

I was looking at the Garden Grocer and their prices are pretty high ($7 for a pound of bacon!!)... so I thought I'd ask you if the prices at Ft. Wilderness are reasonable for fresh items.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Does this give you an idea of the prices ? This was a year ago.

WOWZA!! That's unbelievable! I thought maybe the prices would be somewhat reasonable since it's a campground. But, it is Disney... gotta make those profits somewhere!

Thanks for the info!!

There are plenty of Great Grocery Stores around Orlando and Sand Lake Hills you can get groceries at before you register. I wouldn't waste any money shipping stuff. There's a Publix about 7 +/- miles up Apopka-Vineland that we prefer. It's away from all the Tourist areas and just past Bay Hill.

We make the drive from upstate NY in all kinds of weather and just pulling in that Disney entrance on Apopka-Vineland into the Disney Village makes it all worthwhile.

Have Fun

Last year I purchased items at the store when we stayed at OKW and this year I decided to check out the garden grocer and I have been putting together a list of items for our trip , Garden Grocer is cheaper than onsite stores in disney, I did not look at bacon, I must admit but most items I have been checking run about 25-50 cents more than what I pay here in Connecticut non sale price, I know there is a delivery charge I think its $12 if you buy less than $200 worth of items but I would use them before shipping stuff but that is just me.
Right now we are only planning on doing a few breakfasts in the room even though we could save a lot on meals since we will have a full kitchen in the villa, I am on vacation and enjoy eating out

Thanks, all. I'll probably end up going with Garden Grocer and packing a few things in my suitcase as well instead of shipping separately. We won't have are not renting a car, so going to a grocery store would require us to take a cab back and forth.

We decided not to do the dining plan this year because my just-turning-10 year old won't like much on the adult menus... seems like a waste of money to pay $46/day for him on the dining plan when he'll probably end up ordering off the kids menus anyway.
