Hello. Has anyone ever gotten food poisioning anywhere at WDW? I am terrified of eating someplace, and then... . I'm this way at home too- are there any places/types of food to avoid?

If there were any major cases of food poisoning at Disney World, it would be in the Orlando Sentinal, online, and on these boards in about two hours after the patient was diagnosed. Yahoo and MSN would have that as their lead stories on their news page. Good Morning America would send Meridith Viera down to do a live report and show her eating a hot dog on Main Street.

Honestly, it's nothing something to worry yourself about at Disney World. Or really anywhere. I'm 46 years old and have eaten about 50,370 meals in my life (if I'm doing the math right). I've never gotten food poisoning.

I got sick on our last trip. I was up during the night... and well, use your imagination... I was sick enough that I couldn't go on our final park day, and we needed to extend the trip a day b/c I didn't have the energy to go home. So, we got our money out of our insurance. They paid for the extra night and change in airfare. They send a doctor to the room, which is a litlte weird, but that's how it goes. I was the only one in my family who got sick, so I don't know if it was from food or people. I think it was some kind of a bug b/c it came and went fairly quickly, whereas with food poisoning you feel like you want to die!

A lot of people believe they got "food poisoning" at this restaurant or that restaurant but I think mis-self-diagnosing. Especially when it comes to kids. Children (and adults) touch all sorts of things at WDW and put their hands in or near their mouths constantly. Or touch the part of the straw they put in their mouth. Or place a napkin on a table then use it to wipe up around their semi-open maws.
Just bring some kaopectate or immudium in case you get trots or whatever adn don't worry about it.

I dont know if u would call it food poisoning but i did get pretty sick the Marrakesh. I have benn there in the past and dident get sick but last time woah.

I honestly think a lot of people get sick because they just eat too darn much.
Seriously, who has dessert with lunch every day?

Who eats filet mignon 4 times in 1 week? And Prime Rib the other 3 days?

But it's "included" on DDP, so you have to get your money's worth :lmao:

When people go on vacation especially to WDW they tend to not only over eat but also eat things they normally dont. this alone will play tricks on your stomach. Food Poisioning is not something that happens very often and the chef at disney do at least try to make sure the foods are cooked properly.

Toledo I am like you and a big worrier to boot. I have read on a recent post that some people have gotten sick from Crystal Palace, Sci Fi, LTT, Tonys, the Mexican place and several other places. In my upcoming trip I have adr's for some of those places mentioned and this will be in the back of my mind. If it is a buffet for instance I won't go near anything "that looks bad", messy, dirty, no matter how much I want it and of course if someone in front of me does something gross like touch the food or whatever I won't touch that. If you eat meat and are worried, make sure it is cooked well (cut a burger in half, cut chhicken in half). Food poisoning can happen anywhere and I hope to goodness it doesn't happen to you and I when we are on vacation.

Four adults in my party got food poisoning at Le Cellier about 4 years ago. My sister, one of the afflicted, is a public health nurse who deals with this type of incident every day and she is absolutely certain the food was the cause. We missed one day in the parks and were better by the following evening. It wasn't pleasant, but it did not ruin our trip.

That being said, at a place like Disney that serves thousands of meals every day, you would expect some amount of food borne illness. Any time you eat away from home where you have no control over the preparation, you roll the dice. You pays your money - you takes your chances. To be honest, if you have to worry - I'd be much more worried about picking up a virus from all the kids running around. Your chances are probably much higher there than from food poisoning, but you can fight back by using copious amounts of hand sanitizer.

When I was attending the Transplant Games at WDW in June of 2002 a bunch of us got food poisoning (diagnosed). I think they narrowed the food source to raw tomatoes at one restaurant. I am sure that it probably affected us more since we all have compromised immune systems from our transplants.

FP in general (from bad or incorrectly prepared food) is MUCH rarer than overeating, allergic reactions, stomach flu, non allergic adverse reactions to new foods, acid reflux, or just a plain old tummy ache from mixing too much eating with too much walking.

I would bet that most people who say they "got FP" while at WDW are diagnosing themselves without the aid of a medical professional and picking the first thing that comes to mind, or picking what they think sounds the most dramatic.

Actual FP can be very serious. Believe me, you'd hear about it on the news if it happened at WDW.

I have chronic, horrendous digestive system problems and I have never, in over 27 years of visits to WDW, gotten FP at any on-site restaurant. I've gotten sick, but it was not FP. I don't think I've ever had FP anywhere else for that matter either. And trust me, I know stomach pain like you would not believe.

Technically, you can get food poisoning anywhere. In fact, most people's kitchens harbor more "germs" than the average restaurant. I have eating at Tony's, Crystal Palace, LTT, many other restaurants, and most of the other buffets at WDW in the last 12 years and have never had food poisoning. Wash your hands frequently, use Purell gel if you can't. Could you still get sick--sure--but you could also get sick today at home, too. Go and enjoy yourself!!!

You ae SO right, mom2aredhead! Can't you hear it! :rotfl:

Well, Doctor, what ever is the matter with little Johnny?

I'm sorry, Mrs. Smith, but it's an accute case of Dole Whip Poisoning!

I agree with a lot of the other posters. Yeah, food poisoning is possible and I'm sure it's happened, but most of the people who say they got "food poisoning" probably had some kind of virus. The norovirus is very common, and when you're in such a breeding ground of little kids, and people who don't wash their hands properly and then touch touch touch everything... well people are going to get sick.

Don't stress though. Chances are definitely in your favor that you'll be fine. Just bring along some hand sanitizer and try to not touch things ;)

I've only ever gotten a mild case of food poisoning once, out of the elven or twelve times I've been down there. It was bad enough that I went to the hotel doctor, but it was pretty much gone by the next afternoon. It certainly wouldn't keep me from going back to that resteraunt or ordering the same thing, since as people have said, any kitchen can have a bad day. You definitely shouldn't worry too much about Disney food in general.

Also, I've yet to get even a little sick at a Disney buffett. They tend to have such a high volume of people that the food gets replaced *very* quickly.

Not at Disney, in over 50+ trips to the World. I have had food poisioning once in NJ.
Nothing to avoid. Be smart and be prepared.

I agree. Many food allergies, and sensativities also present with stomach ailments. I am allergic to most tree nuts and cococut. And I know when I have eaten one of them accidently. Disney has plenty of clean bathrooms, no need to worry. Literally - Sword Happens.

Disney takes food safety very seriously. I have eaten at the restaurants you meantioned numerous times without incident. Just becuase you heard someone got sick at so and so place, doesn't mean it was the food. Food allergies, intolerances, over indulging, so many things cause your stomach to evacuate. Everbody just needs to relax and enjoy your vacations. If you have to go, you have to go.

My MIL got very sick after eating in a restaurant at one of the resorts a couple years ago. Oddly, DH and I ate there with her and I think we ate the same things but we were fine.

DD13 got very sick from the crab salad at CG on 2/26, she was stuck in the room for days. :sad1: Doctor said it was food poisoning. :confused3

Eat at CM and CP buffets every year and never sick but........

I just posted this on the places I would not return restaurant thread- but
Two Words

TURKEY LEGS:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

7 out of 13 at our extened family trip missed 2days or more in the parks because all 7 ate Turkey legs together at 4pm in MK and by midnight we had to check in to two additional rooms because the family needed more bathrooms!:scared1:

It was really bad!! Beware!!!

I am thankful that my family passed but for my sister her family and my parents it was like a war zone in there rooms for days with vacation days spent in hotel rooms.
