I just wanted to check in with any recent cruisers regarding the food. We sailed on the Magic in May 2009 and are thinking about another cruise, however I remember hearing some chatter about the food. if I remember correctly, DCL was trying new menus on the Wonder that they planned to bring over the the magic in june. The reviews were HORRIBLE!!!!!! Please tell me they canned the new idea and stuck with the old menus. I just can't see taking my parent on a cruise were the food is bad!!!

I was on the Wonder in September and found many of the reports about the food to be either inaccurate or grossly exaggerated. In fairness, things may have changed between the time of the postings and our sailing.

We had no problem getting steak or anything else without the sauces. I'll agree that the cuts of meat were not as wonderful as they had been, but they were certainly good. The lobster pasta was good--wish it has more lobster.

There are always subtle menu alterations...for instance, on our May Magic cruise we found that my favorite Maple Glazed Salmon was no longer available. Yes, there was a major overhaul scheduled for June to correspond more with the Wonder menus.

We just got off the Magic Saturday and we thought the food was great. I can't answer the question about new menus, but I can say that our only other cruise was on the Wonder in 2007, and we felt this cruise food was better. I had beef tenderloin, swordfish, lobster tail, and some great chocolate souffle(Palo) that was the best dessert I've ever eaten.

Well, I just cruised on the Magic last month and thought the new menus were FANTASTIC! I did not have one bad meal the whole week. My husband even commented that he thought the food was much improved over our last cruise last October.

All our tablemates also enjoyed all their meals. We even commented to our head server how much we enjoyed the new menus and he was quite pleased and said they were getting favorable reviews of the new menus.

We haven't been on the Magic since January, but we were just on the Wonder last month for B2B cruises.

We found that we liked the food much better this time around. I don't think it tasted much different, we just figured out that we could ask for what we wanted.

As KCashner mentioned, the cuts of meat aren't the best, but they're not horrible. And you could absolutely get steak or anything else without sauce. And if you don't like anything on the menu, ask if you can have something else that might be available (plain steak, chicken, an item offered in a different dining room.) My husband got ribeye more nights that I can remember. My mom didn't always want the desserts offered, so she asked (and I later followed suit) for some ice cream with chocolate sauce. The staff was fantastic.

On occasion, we'd ask for a baked potato in place of the veggies that came with the meal. And sometimes, we'd ask for two meals. The waiter brought us more than two desserts every night without us asking.

Also, your server will make some suggestions and I've pretty much learned to trust them. It's especially nice when you have late seating and they've gotten feedback on that night's food from the early diners. :thumbsup2

Also, for anyone sailing on the Magic who may have wanted to try sushi but have always been afraid of the concept of raw fish... try the Tuna Tartar appetizer on the Animator's Palette menu. OMG! It's opened up a whole new world to me.

Chef Charles used this dish in the Art of Entertaining series and thank heaven I got to taste it before our regular Animator's menu. When that night came, I ordered two!

P.S. Assume this is on the menu on the Wonder also and assume it is just as good, even withouth Chef Charles' personal touch.

The new menus for both ships are linked in the DIS DCL FAQ thread linked in my signature. :)

We just got off Sat. and we thought the food was great! We have sailed Disney before and actually thought it was better tahn last time. We are foods snobs too. Was it 5 stars? No; but overall it was pretty darn good. I have the menus from Animators Palate and the Till We Meet Again night. If I could figure out how to get them on here I would!!

No problems with us and the food. I even mentioned to my DH that I couldn't understand all the fuss over the "bad" food that I was reading on the DIS.

just got back from Western/Magic about a month ago. Thought the food was okay, not horrible....with one exception.

My adult daughter ordered a steak one night and it was so not right. Tasted like liver (so am assuming that it had sat in blood/juice rather than being stored properly.....).

Palo? I could eat there every night and then some. Souffle was wonderful.

We got off the Magic this past Saturday and if we had to (forced to think of something) complain about the food, it would be that most dishes were quite rich. We had salad our first night home to detox. Everything was delicious, some nights my husband and I had our own dinners and ordered another dinner to share between us as we couldn't decide which dish to try.

The biggest complaint when the new menus started on the Wonder was that you couldn't get anything plain including a steak. Since DCL received so much feedback about that it was changed on the Wonder and was "fixed" before the new menus hit the Magic.

We sailed last month on the Magic and we enjoyed each and every meal. Sure do wish they'd bring back the maple glazed salmon at Animators.
