Hi
I'm wanting to take some food on the plane for my boys.
Just some apples, banana's, grapes, frubes maybe, a sandwich each and of course some sweets.
Is this allowed?
I know we can't take the fruit into the US and that's ok as we'll make sure we eat it on the plane.
What do you take in your hand luggage for your little one?
My boys won't last 9 hours just with plane food! LOL!

I tend to take things like raisins, granola bars, maybe some cheese portions or babybels and some cracker type snacks.

My DD wont eat shop sandwiches as she prefers very plain food. My DS is 10months and would eat anything including the plane seat LOL

We take mini cheddars or crisps and then some sweets like haribo.

Can't be bothered to carry too much though!

Me & my DD prefer to snack too, usually cheese, crackers, grapes, sausage roll & pods of small Jaffa cakes have become a tradition too:thumbsup2

DD is 11 now but won't eat any food on the plane except what I pack for her. There is a story behind this (thanks VA!! - NOT!) but because of this I still take snacks for her and they haven't changed that much. I opt for individual portions or ready portioned snack packs so I normally buy multi packs of the sort of things you put in a school bag as a snack and just put a few together for her.

Typical items are Ryvita Mini's, Snack a Jacks, gummy candies, dried fruit snack packs, cereal bars etc. I don't take all of the above but those are typical examples. Anything she doesn't eat remains on the plane, even if it is permitted, as we try not to take food in to save ourselves having to declare it. So even if it's not fruit or anything not allowed to take into the USA, don't forget that if you have any leftovers in your bag you still need to tick the box on the declaration form

anything basic and pre-packed is fine plus fruit etc. We did get asked to open homemade sandwiches a couple of years ago and that just made it not worth us taking them to be honest but last year we ordered a couple of graze boxes and three out of four of us don't eat the plane food any longer. We just dump everything before we land when the attendants collect the rubbish.

Fab, it'll mostly be small snack sized foods, and fruit too. Plus my eldest son doesn't like sandwiches, just bread, so do you think I would be able to wrap some bread in a zip lock sandwich bag and take that on with me?
Anything not eaten will be thrown away on the plane.

Neither of our boys eat plane food but both for different reasons, if you are flying with BA you can get a fruit platter which they both loved, last year they had fresh strawberries, melon 2/3 different types, fresh pineapple, grapes etc, it might be worth checking if other airlines do something similar, they have had this a couple of times now and eaten everything. Eldest always takes plenty of Jaffa cakes but that's another story we think he needs rehab for Jaffa cake addiction!!!

My DD always has the fruit platter as well :)

I now buy DS a meal deal from Boots in departures. He hates airline food. Also take Pringles and snack packs of Jaffa cakes etc

Do you think they would let me take on bread wrapped in clingfilm. My eldest won't eat sandwiches, only plain bread bless him.
My youngest will eat anything.

my dd is very picky too and her sandwich was bread with butter. You can get stuff through the 'other side' of security but not plain bread unless you are somewhere like the Vroom and pop a bread roll into a bag to take with you. That's why we resorted to other stuff. We always put all the food into one flight bag (and make DH carry it ;) ) that way you don't miss stuff when emptying everyone's flight bag to destroy it before landing - and the sniffer dog only takes a fancy to one member of your party :)
