Ok, I know bread, milk, eggs, OJ and all the stuff we will need for our stay. I really don't look foward to planning meals that will take up alot of time. Anyone have some quick meal ideas? I have ordering Pizza covered! :thumbsup2

Grilled steaks or burgers are good if you have a grill. Just microwave some potatoes (or bake) and a salad.

Hi...I am sure folks will help with food...we never forget our own bar of favorite soap and favorite shampoo...remember, no housekeeping and no nice little new bars of soap everyday!

Ted

If you are a customer of sams club they have whats called click and pull and you can pre order what you want and pick it up when you get there. Call to make sure they get your order once they did not and I had to do the shopping yuck.
If not this is what we do. Breadfast items like eggs, dry cereal, bread for toast, bagels, frozen wafflesenglish muffins and butter and jelly. Lots of water we get both small bottles and 2.5 gallon bottles with the spigots that we put in the fridge. Lots of aluminum foil and all our vegtables go in with a little water and butter and then grill. Anything that can be grilled when we are home. If not they have these shrimp dishes from magfaritaville there are jerk, lime and then we by pasta and ramien noodles with out using the sauce for the ramian noodles and its a quick not bad at all meal. My brother in law made grilled pizzas one night to die for but a little more work then I want. My husbnd like his coffee so I buy him starbucks from sams and grind it. We also buy some different types of ice cream for snacks and lots of soft drinks. Our order might be large for most but we have a 6 bed rental home and bring a lot of family and friends down so this might be to much for you but it is an idea.

We bought some half gallons of ice cream and cones for treats and the grandkids really enjoyed them just as much as what we had when out and about . I think it was the whole vacation atmosphere and the time to enjoy simple things together. (It also was quite a savings!)

Next year when we rent a home, I am going to these new places that have freezer ready meals and we are bringing those down.

We love to do the stouffers lasagna, toss salad and bread.

We love those frozen premade biscuits in the morning.

Publix chickens and their sides are also a must for us!!

The kids love those premade peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches as well.

We like the lasagna too! There will be 14 of us, so how many do you think I need to buy? :rotfl2:

Even at home we use a food prep place! It's awesome!

When at home, we go once a month, prepare all the food for the month (12 meals feeding 4-6 = 24 meals for our family of 2) in 2 hours. All I have to do the rest of the month is thaw and throw in the oven/crock pot/grill etc. Have only had a few meals that we didn't care for (learned we don't like wine in a slow cooker meal - but we don't like wine anyway).

On vacation, you can call ahead (or arrange online) to have however many meals you need prepared for you. Most places have set packages (such as 8 or 12 meals) but they do them al a cart as well. It's not quite as good of a savings, but it's still better than the cost of eating onsite!!
Anyway - you order - they fix - you pick up after you are settled in your home. Some even deliver. For a week trip, you wouldn't even need to freeze the foods. Just put all the baggies in the fridge and have a nice time, knowing your dinner will be 90% done already!

Two I found in Orlando are:
http://www.letseatdinner.com
http://www.magicalmealtime.com

There is a FREE online list that has 284 companies that do meals like this all around the U.S. (so you can find one near your home too!)
http://www.easymealprep.com/main/direct01.php
You can sort the list by company name or location (much more logical, I think!)

Thank you TravelinGal! I've never heard of this, and it may just fit the bill for us at home!

Baked beans and get the hillshire farms sausage links and some hot dog buns and call it a meal. The sausage can be thrown in the microwave or put in a skillet w/some water and boiled...real easy.

Here's another vote for pre-cooked chickens. We made a couple meals out of one with deli salads and rolls. Publix has a great potatoe salad ( Southern style ) in the deli.
We also bought a variety pack of lunch meats, sub buns, some cheese and tomatoes, and had another couple of meals.
I hated to leave all the food behind that we didn't eat ( mostly condiments ). Now if I can only get our local grocery store to stock packages of Krispy Creme donuts. We ate 2 dozen in 1 week.
Luckily we walked them off ! :teeth:

When I saw this, I was thinking more on the lines of

popcorn, icy pops, cheese and crackers, variety pack of cereal, Goober Grape, lol

ham and cheese on toasted everything bagels are great for breakfast, lunch or midnight snacks.

for big meals, I like to make up stuff in the morning, so that it could just be pulled out and heated up whenever.

a Mexican fiesta night might be inexpensive and fun. The veggies can be cut up and the groundbeef made up ahead of time and you can stretch it by having chips, rice and a couple of cans of black beans or refried beans with it.

a big pot of spaghetti sauce with browned Italian sausage links dumped in can be made ahead of time and then you could have it over pasta and/or the sausage can be pulled out for sandwiches.

those cheap boxes of Zataran's are pretty good with some cut up cooked smoked sausage or chicken thrown in with some yummy crusty bread.

you could also get take out from Babalous Bar-b-que.

Good luck and try not to get stuck in the kitchen the whole time. :goodvibes

This is an excellent idea! I've never heard of it either, but may be just the thing for me and my crew. Thanks so much for the suggestion and links! :goodvibes

I wish we had one here...hmmm...:scratchin

Thanks! I like that they'll prep and deliver..menus look delicious:)

We might give this a go next trip::yes:: As much as we love the marinate/meat/ziploc, tossed salad and Lipton sidekicks, I get tired of it..

Thanks, TravleinGal :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We go to costco and get veggie/dip trays and fruit trays (I think last time just pineapple, but they have mixed bowls or trays too). Then when you're in the condo. For afternoon breaks or in the eveniing we'd munch on veggies and dip while we gulped water and gatorade. Meals in the condo were usually toast, cereal or sausage/cheese quesadillas with fruit for breakfast - sandwiches and vegggies for lunch or dinner. We also made simple meals like mac and cheese or broccoli rice casserole for the kids.

If there isn't one in your area (and it's a big enough community to support it) I'd say it's an awesome business opportunity! But you (and/or employees) would have to work evenings/weekends since many of the people who use them work full time. Some are sole businesses, but there are chains too. I think Supper Solutions is a franchise type business.

This is also an excellent idea. You guys are great...I'm so glad I found this thread...THANK YOU! :yay:

Quiche is a real easy meal for any time of the day. I just buy a premade frozen pie crust then add the eggs, cream/milk, and whatever else I feel like (bacon, ham, cheese, sausage, spinach etc).

Got a nice package, steaks, stuffed fillets, hotdogs, hamburgers, porkchops, veal parm. They threw in a dessert and au'gratin' taters, I added some sides and veggies.

They were all ready for cookin-grilling - so prep was 0. Our condo visit was for a week on the beach tho, so we jumped on the BackYardBonanza deal that comes out every year this time.

You may want to check out the 10 meal specials at AlaZing - those are great too.

Then all you need to do is pick up breakfast items, milk, and salad fixins.
(Take condiments in packets with you, same with salt and pepper. Those items add up if you have to buy them.)
