food in your room

We've found that it really pays big to go to the local grocery store right after checking in. We have a little list of things that we buy there. Here goes:
muffins, granola bars, cereal bars
'string' cheese, trail mix, cheese and crackers
can of mixed nuts, pretzels
some kind of chocolate candy and some kind of chewy candy!
fresh fruit, yogurt
canned pop, bottled water, juice boxes/Capri Sun drink pouches, beer for dh!

We get a refrigerator - although we've been able to keep a lot in a tupperware container in a cooler before. When we go we each pick out some things we would like to eat. We let our kids each put a couple snacks in their backpack each morning. We are there for two weeks - so we usually end up eating most of it. Left over drinks we pass on to another family who we run into on our last morning there...along with the styrofoam cooler that we buy for about $2.50 when we arrive!

Breakfast in the room saves time and money. While we are getting ready for a day at the parks, its so easy to give the boys some cereal, juice and pop tarts while watching the Disney channel. We always hit Publix or Goodings before the resorts and pick up:

Waters
Juice boxes
soda
cereal
Pop tarts
Rolling Rock (only Goodings sells this, I've found out the hard way!)
pretzels
chips
small packages of cookies or cheezits
bananas
apples
PB and J
Bread

I have also heard of people buying the fried chicken and sides at Goodings (Crossroads Shopping Plaza) for an in-room dinner. I haven't though, but I think its a pretty good idea. Goodings has a lot of prepared meals. However, it is also one of the priciest markets I have ever been too! Walgreens is a little further down and has many grocery items as well, and at a more reasonable price.

DH packs water, juice boxes and snacks in our backpack with no problem.

It is always a great feeling when heading out of the room, to walk right past the food court, since we have already eaten and right to the bus stop, knowing that one of the parks is just minutes away! :goodvibes

I can't speak for the all starts, but Pop Century definitely has toasters available in the food court. Didn't see any Peanut Butter but I think I saw jelly!

We bring much fruits. Apples, bananas, etc. such that doesn't need the fridge. Of course, Dunkin Doughnuts or Krispie Kremes, poptarts, breakfast bars.

Those "Boost" types drinks don't need fridge either.

We always stop on the way in and buy a case of Mountain Dew, because you can't find it anywhere else in WDW.

I buy the multipack boxes full of individual sized Chips Ahoy, Nutterbutters, and Oreos, some packs of peanuts, Rice Krispy treats, etc. We don't usually eat breakfast in our room, but it sure helps to keep these in the backpack for a snack while waiting in line or taking a break.

We have never gotten into the whole cooler thing, maybe when we have kids...
