Food in checked luggage

I completely understand what one is suppose to "do" on a discussion board and I'm always open to new suggestions and ideas.
What I don't "get" is the snarkiness of some individuals and I feel that it is very unnecessary.

I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Lots of folks will read this post wondering if they should pack food. Some will come away with other ideas others will know its ok to pack food. Some don't know that there are so many great grocery delivery options and may find out from reading this thread.

Meantime, I offered the answer you asked for in a factual link and I get "snark" instead of thanks.

I do thank you for providing that link and I apologize for not saying so. My comment about people being snarky really wasn't meant for you and I'm sorry if it seemed that way. It was meant for those who seem to feel that the way they do things is somehow the "right" and only way things should be done and can't fathom why anyone would want to do something differently.
Like I said in an earlier post...what works for one person may not work for another.
I guess my frustration comes from seeing this a lot throughout many of the threads. I see lots of judgment and rude comments that are completely unwarranted which in turn starts the bandwagon effect (IMHO).
I wonder what ever happened to "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all"? I also realize calling individuals snarky is not very nice either but felt like I was put on the defense.

Sorry this has become soooo :offtopic:

Will you say that I am 'snarky' if I explain that at least a dozen times now I have had my suitcases soaked by a careless/thoughtless traveller who packed liquids, which broke, leaked, and soaked other passengers items? I had to pay over 100 Euros once to have every single item cleaned; another time I had to throw out expensive almost new shoes and clothing, not to mention paperwork and other items which were ruined.

Many of us have a vast amount of experience, but it is really very frustrating when those who don't have much experience refuse to heed advice and see anything contradictory as 'snarky' or 'evil'. I don't actually see any snarky posts here, so you may be a little sensitive and reading 'advice' as 'criticism'. It isn't, it is just advice from experienced travellers.

There are actually restrictions against packing alcohol on many airlines, and that is due to the reasons outlined above.

There are also several severe restrictions on packing food for anyone travelling internationally (including to/from Canada to/from the US) Yet there are many posters here who don't seem to believe us that those are in place.

You talk about the 'right way' and the 'only way' - many of us are advocating the considerate way of doing things.

Ultimately, do what you want, but please do consider your fellow passengers and take some of the advice given to you here. If you must pack liquids (and I refuse to believe that anyone travelling to WDW - or most of Europe for that matter - needs to pack water) then please pack it very very carefully and please take the information given here in a positive fashion.

I wish all airlines had this rule. I'm one that several years ago had everything in my suitcase ruined by someone who thought they had packed their wine bottles "really well". It just so happened I was standing at the baggage carousel next to them when the luggage came out. The wife was so upset and just kept saying she had "packed them so well, there's no way they could have broken". Guess what lady they did and ruined not only your luggage but other innocent passengers'.:rotfl: It's sort of funny now, but it sure wasn't then.

My advice to the OP is not to risk it. Those water bottles will have a hard time holding up against those rough baggage handlers.

I guess it's something that just started about a week or so ago. I've read it on many threads. People have placed orders only to find out their orders are being canceled.:confused3

On which boards? I spend most of my time on the DVC boards and some on the cruise board so I haven't seen this yet. TIA

I know that some have said that Staples no longer will ship water...not sure about anyone else. And I do know that some resorts are now charging a small fee to hold something that has been shipped to the resort, if the guest isn't there yet.

Long story short....if someone wants to fill up their suitcase with water, go for it. All that anyone here asks is that the person flying with the water in their checked luggage do it properly, so as to not impact anyone else. That's only fair.
As for what is available through a delivery service..this is what I find is available with GardenGrocer.com...
Poland Springs...32 pk of 16.9oz, $13
Zephyerhills....32 pk, 16.9 oz, $9
Dasani....24 pk, 16.9 oz, $8

As well as other lesser brands of water. I routinely buy the Zephyrhills and it's fine..not as good as name brands but certainly drinkable.

So...if one would rather schlep the water and other food items to WDW, fine. Just be sure to pack them correctly. And, you'll have that extra bag for anything you buy at WDW!!

What is folks' problem with Orlando's water? It's fine!

Now Tampa's water, a different story...but I just don't see lugging water when the water there is A-OK!

This is why I only pack boxed wine! The last time I packed for a Disney trip where I wouldn't have a car, I packed instant oatmeal packets, applesauce cups, tea bags, a Brita pitcher and a box of wine. It worked out pretty well for breakfast and a little after-park beverage.

My first year I went down, I didn't realize how many snack options they had. I love peanut butter as a snack, so I packed two jars as well as a spoon. I could tell they had searched my bags.

Once I got down there, I was so pleased with the amount of snack choices, I forgot all about the peanut butter.

I have no issue with Orlando's water. I actually have used the bubblers (or water fountains) in WDW, much to my adult dd's dismay. She was horrified to see me doing that...'Do you know how many germs are in there Mom??? Just think of all those kids who put their mouths all over it...yuck.' But, I havn't gotten sick yet.
Now, Tampa's water hasn't been a big issue either...at least not that I remember. Ds lives in Tampa and I don't remember it being nasty.

Obviously, I don't have a sensitive palate!!!

Maybe Tampa's water has improved?

We had the Tampa house from 1969 to 1995, so it has been awhile!
