Okay, here's the situation.

I'm not going to WDW until July 2004, but I'm planning early :)

Anyways, I'm staying at the POR with my gf and I was wondering what to do about keeping bottle water cold for the parks.

I drink a LOT of bottle water (3L or more a day easily) so I go through a case of water in about 4-6 days depending. I'm planning on buying 3-4 cases of bottle water using the town car service (as well as some granola bars, fruit snacks, etc to keep the energy up) but I don't see the purpose is paying for a refridgerator at $10 per day (yes I'd save over the parks, but it's still kind of ridiculous just for water).

So my question is, what other ways are there to keep the water "cold" (and my water needs to be cold, not lukewarm). My idea was to purchase a small disposable cooler type thing (not sure exactly what I mean, but perhaps you guys have some ideas) and fill it with ice. Then put 6-12 bottles of water in there the night before for the next day. Is this feasible and will it work? Do you guys know any good places to get these cheap coolers around WDW or are they a packable thing? Does POR even have an ice machine??

Thanks in advance.

They sell those styrofoam coolers all over the place. Yes, they have an ice machine at POR, in fact, more than one. Fill one of the sinks with ice over night.

Disney Nick - You can certainly manage to keep the bottled water cold in your room, but what are you planning to do once you leave the room? No matter how cold it may be when you start the day, its going to warm up quick carrying it around WDW in July. Unless you are planning to carry some type of cooler with you and keep the bottles on ice, all but the first bottle will likely be warm by the time you drink them.

We keep ice cold water with us all day by using a refillable sport bottle with an insulated shoulder strap carrier, but we only drink tap water and just get cups of ice at the restaurants. I realize that doesn't help you if you insist on bottled water.

Perhaps someone else has some suggestions for how to keep the bottles cold in the parks.

one of those Brita water filter bottles? That way you could filter the cold water to get that "bottled taste" and not have to deal with the bulking bottled water cases, etc. We also drink a lot of bottled water in our house and this is what we do. It's just a lot easier and you can get cold water anywhere but filter it.

Mom2alix (and anyone else who might know! :D ),

Can you please give more info about the Brita bottles? Are they really able to filter out that nasty water taste at WDW :p ? What size are they? We did the multiple water bottle thing last year, but carrying them in the backpack was a bit of a pain.

Thanks for any info!

why not just pack a few empty gatorade bottles(the smaller kind). just fill them up with ice before you go to the parks for the day. they will gradually meltbut stay very cold. enjoy!

Hmm...

You guys are a great help ;)

I've tried the Brita thing. First, I couldn't figure out how to fill the damn thing up all the way without using a sink (drinking fountain tipping wasn't getting me anywhere). How do you guys do it?

Second, it didn't taste all that great compared to bottled... I'm a product of our screwed up consumer culture, what can I say

But I'd be willing to get it a second shot.

What was this about getting free ice and/or water at the restaurants?

Keep the ideas coming guys !

A soft sided cooler? We bought one at the Container Store for about $25 bucks. It holds 36 cans (and no ice ;) ) and folds up pretty small. (Saw them at target for a little less, but didn't fold up as well).

We used this for water, beer, wine & cheese in the room and it worked great! didn't leak at all.

I have to drink bottled water too. I am bringing a soft sided 6 pack cooler to chill it in with ice. When I go to the parks if it gets warm I'll just ask for some ice in a cup.

As i said, we carry a couple of sports bottle that we can refill throughout the day. Before we head out in the moring, we fill the bottle with ice and water at our hotel. If we have a freezer, we freeze the bottle partly full overnite and fill it the rest of the way with water in the morning.

During the day, as we drink the water and the ice melts, we just get a cup of ice at one of the restaurants and top it off.

We have no problem drinking tap water. Personally, I'm amazed how many folks have allowed the marketing people to convince them to pay for bottled water. I don't know what everyone drank before selling bottled water became such a popular thing.
