I know they have that snack stand outside the theater (what's the name?), but what about popcorn? Do you take snacks?

The stand outside the BV theatre sells popcorn, candy, and soda in cans. Key word is "sells." The one outside the WD theatre sells candy, cookies, sodas, alcoholic beverages, etc. There is a bar on one side, a snack store on the other. Inside the WD theatre will be bar servers selling smoothies.

A couple of cheaper alternatives are available. First, you can bring a large bag of candy and parcel it out into baggies for the movies. Secondly, you can go to deck 9 and get cookies, fruit, sodas, or even a full meal from one of the fast food places and take whatever you'd like to the theatre. The drink cups on deck 9 have plastic lids and straws (like McDonald's), and you can get soda there and take it into the theatres.

I have never thought to take any food or beverges with me before joining this board.

We have even taken the All Hands On Deck cheese platter from room service to the movies....

The popcorn is not theater quality popcorn. It is sold in prepackaged bags-like you would purchase at the store. For someone who is a real popcorn theather connoisseur they may be disapointed. However, whatever lack of good popcorn, makes up with the awesome movie theather.

Also, DS and his friend ran upstairs (when they realized they had to purchase snacks) and brought back to the the movie pizza and hotdogs.

It's funny, I thought of doing all this snack stuff too before our cruise but when I got there, I realized we just weren't hungry. With all the other good eats, we stayed pretty satisfied without snacks. We did bring drinks to the shows though.

My son would order potato chips from room service and take them to the movie theater. The popcorn was yucky!

One thing I learned is that you can't take snack foods into the Walt Disney theater. I had grabbed a plate of Nachos from Diversions for DD, and they asked me to have her eat them outside. They will let you take bags of candy, but not anything messy.

Preludes is that name...

We always get Shirley (theperfectgift.cc) to include lots of snacks for all us kids (big and little) to take with us for these occasions...THe baskets are usually full of small snacks that are ideal..

Scoops has mm's to add to the ice cream, and we sometimes have asked for a cup full....

Have to agree about that Chester's popcorn... :sad2:

TKD Lisa reports that she was informed no "messy" food allowed in. I have seen others bring in pizza slices and I think I have done the same, or maybe it was something from Pluto's, so I wonder if others might post their own experiences. I wonder if it is just inconsistent application of a true policy, or an encounter with an overzealous CM, or if the rules have changed over time and I had not noticed the change on my most recent cruises.

Lots of folks had burgers, pizza, fries, and ice cream in the theater when we were on board and no castmembers stopped them. A lot of folks hit Scoops, Pinnochios and Plutos before a movie. Frankly, I never saw any popcorn or snacks for sale outside the theater.
As for bringing your own from home.......well.....why? I can't believe the stuff people pack on board, soda, snacks, bottled water, ketchup, beer, coffee. Hey folks, everything you need is on board, and other than the wine we had for dinner, we NEVER bought another drink, snack or any other staple item on board. Everything I really needed was included.

You can take any kind of food into the Buena Vista "Movie" theater. They won't let you take anything but candy & drinks into the big Walt theater.

Just beware, there are no cup holders. The kids were absolutely stunned by this. :rotfl:

Isn't it odd that you can eat and eat and EAT just about anything and everything on the cruise, but you have to BUY popcorn and snacks for the shows??? And, from what everyone is saying, it's lousy popcorn???? If the little "rinky-dink" movie theater in my hometown can make decent popcorn (which is sooo cheap to make!) why can't Disney GIVE its passengers popcorn??

Sooo, if I'm understanding everyone correctly, I can bring a FREE lobster into the theater, but I have to pay for lousy popcorn???

Sometimes Disney's thinking is a mystery to me....

karen :)

Clarifying my point, it was the Walt Disney theater where we were stopped, not the Buena Vista Theater. And it was nachos, which I agree are messy. I had no problem with them stopping us, I just wanted people to be aware.

We always take a bag of goodies from the kid's Halloween stash with us on the cruise to use for the movies. It takes up very little room. We also take individually packaged snacks so that it is easy to grab a couple for the kids along with their juice boxes when we get off the ship at a port. If they get hungry we don't have to worry about throwing a big bag of something away to get back on the ship.

Oh, they stopped offering M&Ms last year at Scoops. People had reported it before our cruise and we found that to be the case in December. They must have been going thru too many of them.
