I've never been on one of these cruises before. what kind of food can i expect? and do i get to eat as much as i want?::yes::

Also is it necessary to bring fancy clothing, ie shirt and tie

First of all, I would like to Welcome you to the DIS. You will love it here and will learn lots of information. I am 14 now and know just about everything about DCL. Anyways to answer your questions, there is tons of different kinds of food. There is Pluto's by the pool which serves counter service: Hot Dogs,Burgers,Chicken Fingers,Bratwurst, other things. The Pizzeria serves well, as you can guess pizza. The buffet for breakfast has all your traditional and not so traditional breakfast foods. At lunch there is fruit and all kinds of deli meat, with other dishes depending on the day. If go on a 7 day cruise, they have themed buffets for lunch: Asian, Italian,Seafood. I forget the others. Parrot Cay and Topsiders serve the same for lunch. Lumieres also has a nice sit down lunch. There is food everywere on the ship so you wont have a hard time finding any. Also at midnight there is a desert buffet once on the 7 Day cruise. On others nights there is little pizzas, and other snacks at promanade lounge. The pizzeria is usally open along with Plutos until 9pm. Please visit http://www.castawayclub.com which is Barb's site that has menus for dinner and some other lunch and breakfast menus. You will enjoy the cruise. Any more questions just feel free to ask.
Enjoy the Cruise,
Matt
P.S And oh yea you can eat all you want

Sorry, forgot about the clothing. There 2 formal nights on the 7 day. They say one is Semi formal but I see no difference in them. You dont need a jacket or anything formal night even though some were them. I wore a nice button up shirt and slacks for formal night. One night I did were a tie. Its really up to you on fancy you want to get. Please note though that: DCL says please no shorts, jeans or bathing suits in any of the dining rooms. A lot of people I have seen somtimes dont follow the no short or jeans rule but it alway bugs me people can not follow rules.
Hope This Helps,
Matt

One place to get food... room service...

:p

What kind of food? Every kind imaginable..gourmet style.

Do you get to eat as much as you want? Yes, at the buffets. And at the dinners, you may even have two entrees. (At least at the later seating we did.)

As for your question about fancy clothes, just wait for another thread a about 'dressing up' VS. 'not dressing up'. :D :p
(I say that w/great humor, as that debate surfaces on these boards quite often, and some very good points are made from both sides:tongue: )

One more thing about how to dress (whichever way you decide to go.) Bring two sizes. You'll need the larger size towards the end of the cruise from all the WONDERFUL food you will have consumed. I think it's the best part of the cruise. Wait till you attend the dessert buffet:teeth:

You may always order 2 entrees or anything else you want at dinner--doesn't matter if early or late seating. Also, you can order things not on the menu or "mix things up" if you desire. For instance, if the pork comes with mashed potatoes, but you are ordering the steak...you can still get the mashed taters. There is steak, chicken breast, and a vegetarian dish available every night, even when it is not listed on the menu. Also, there is a sugar free dessert each day (again, not listed...you have to ask).

DD told our server that her favorite vege was broccoli. From then on, no matter what else she ordered, it came with a side of broccoli! And they stock enough mac and cheese to last the whole cruise (hee hee).

Another favorite was when Dueling Pianos sang "We All Live on the Disney Magic Ship" to the tune of "Yellow Submarine," with the line "every one of us has mac and cheese." Maybe you had to be there.....

Others have covered the when and where and how much pretty well. Actually they have left off Palo (adults only restaurant). I understand dinners are very good. Have only done brunch on the 7 night cruises and for us it's a not to be missed meal.

There are 3 main restaurants on board. They serve about 475 people each, twice a night. Palo on the other hand serves about 160 dinners per night - they can take more care in the preparation of the meal (that's not to say that the normal restaurants are poor - they are exellent - just not quite as good as Palo).

A little about the type of food at dinner. There is usually a fish, steak, pork, poultry and vegitarian item done up in a very special way. They also have "plain" fish, steak, pork, poultry available. The food generaly is rich and very tasty.

This IS the time to be brave and adventurous. I generally don't eat fish (salmon excepted). I was brave a couple of times and tried their fish (grouper:tongue: I remember the other I don't) The grouper was great and the other was probably the best meal I have ever had!!::yes:: If you order something you end up not liking, don't hesitate to ask for something else. They will bring it out to you in a very short time. On lobster night ("Captian's Gala") several men at our table ordered the steak dinner and the lobster dinner (surprisingly they didn't offer the "Surf and Turf" as a menu option:confused: )

Same goes for any of the courses - order as many as you want. Your table can order an appitizer or two to share, then everyone orders their own too (or everyone order two - whatever)

As far as the courses go they are: Appitizer, Soup/Salad, Entree, Dessert. There is always bread avaiable (each restaurant/menu has a bread special - they make their own bread - the crousants are the BEST).

Many of the servers are great. If for example you mention that you love Creame Brullee', your server may just bring you one even if you order something else (and even if you are not in Lumiers), they may bring you one every night, may ask if he can bring you one. Don't be surprised. Maybe Rae will share her Creame Brullee story.

Enjoy the experience!

Don't worry about wasting food (my family has a real problem about wasting food). DCL recycles it (see tomorrows lunch:crazy2: -- no NOT really at lunch). They turn it into fish food and overboard it goes.

The biggest tip: Forget the elevators, take the stairs. After two days on board, really cut back on the amount you eat at lunch. We usually skip it - and will pick up some fruit from scoops in the afternoon.

You should look at www.castawayclub.com and www.dcltribute.com

Both these sites are wonderful and have copies of the menus posted so you can see what food is offered.

They also have the Activities newsletters that you get on board, so you can see what there is available to do. These newsletters are called Navigators.

I hope you enjoy your cruise!! I can't wait until April when I get to go on the 7 day Western. :)
