We are going to cruise on the Disney Dream for the first Disney cruise ever, in 2 weeks! What are some of the food favorites? Best place for breakfast, lunch?

Best overall dinner (from the food standpoint): Royal Palace. I recommend the Salmon entree and the salad app.
Best appetizer: Ahi Tuna Avocado Tower at Enchanted Garden. I wish I had ordered another of these as my entree!
Best dining experience: Animator's Palette. I have no idea if the food was good or not, no kidding. We had such a great time enjoying the "show" and drinking wine with our table mates that I really don't remember eating. The theming in that restaurant is absolutely incredible.
Least favorite dining experience: Enchanted Garden, aside from that incredible appetizer. Our entrees (whole table) were not good and I just don't like the whole theme of the restaurant.
Best lunch: Embarkation lunch at Cabanas. Shrimp, crab claws, beautiful fruit, salads...oh my!
Best lunch runner up: Serenity Bay BBQ: mahi mahi, grilled chicken, more gorgeous fruits and salad choices
Best breakfast: Cabanas. Grilled tomatoes at breakfast? Life changer!!
Least favorite breakfast: Enchanted Garden departure breakfast. Food was okay, but the breakfast itself was so depressing! Very few people on 2nd seating showed up. We will go to Cabanas for departure breakfast next time.
Best snacks: "All Hands On Deck" Cheese plate from room service, wraps from the counter service near the pool, appetizer buffet at The District.

We loved eating at Cabanas for breakfast every morning. The selection of food is huge. We would get up right before we docked at the port and would eat on the outside deck while the ship backed into the dock. For breakfast they have all your Disney classics like Mickey waffles, sausage, bacon, eggs, fruits, cereals, pastries, etc.

As far as main dining rooms, Royal Palace was our favorite. The soufflé for desert is amazing. (Don't forget in the MDR's if you want to try multiple items, you can..just ask)

Enjoy your cruise, we're actually going next weekend (1/29)!!

Cabanas is open on the last day before debarkation, just with limited choices. I don't think it is "advertised" in the Welcome Home letter, but it is open. There are many threads here on the boards that confirm this.

While this is generally true, there have also been reports of it actually being closed on debarkation day for one reason or another. It appears to be exceedingly rare but it could happen. Odds are it won't though.

We are huge fans of Cabanas especially on the Dream and Fantasy. At home I'm not a big breakfast eater so breakfast is probably my biggest indulgence all day long. I love their corned beef hash (which again I never eat at home) and their carrot cake. My DS and I love the California rolls when they have sushi out one day but I know many say it's not that good - but for us, we love them. The Muesli is also very yummy and so is the Tiramisu. These are just the ones that come into my mind at the moment. :)

Enjoy!

It was closed on ours, but good to know that it is sometimes open.

I'll be honest, Cabanas was quite honestly one of our favorite things on the cruise. My wife's parents joined us on our first cruise and my father in law kept calling it Carabas so that's what stuck for us lol But sitting outside on the rear deck, enjoying breakfast while the ship backs into port is just an awesome view and an amazing experience. I highly recommend sitting on the outside deck!

Be sure to order the black truffle pasta purseittes at Animators, they are amazing!

I have to agree with a couple previous posters the MDR adds to your depression on debarkation morning, we much prefer Cabanas, (was open on all 4 of our cruises). And the corned beef hash is awesome.

Another tip for embarkation day, if you're going straight up to cabanas for lunch as soon as you get on the ship. After you enter the atrium, go to your left and head to the aft elevators. They will be way less crowded and they take you to the rear entrance of cabanas on deck 11. Also I highly recommend eating outside for that lunch. Enjoy your cruise

I am leaving on the Dream tomorrow as well! And I live in Florida too :)

I loved the Dream that was my first ship and blew me away!

From what I can remember - there was something about that popcorn soup and the sweet temptations trio for dessert every night :) the popcorn soup was on the last night.

Anything with crab cakes and lobster was also really good!

For breakfast my family mainly ate at Cabanas and really only had lunch on Castaway Cay. The ribs at Cookies BBQ very good, don't miss that.

Bumping this to top. We are going on Dream 4 night on Feb 29th. I'm keeping a running list of everyone's favorites. :)

Our favorite place for breakfast was Enchanted Garden. Buffet for delicious things like Mickey waffles but table service for drinks and omelets.

Mickey Bars are my very favorite onboard treat.

Are the Mickey waffles in Cabanas buffet, or Enchanted Garden?
