Food at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

Hi again - I think it's great that you've decided to go to HDDR. I know you will love it!!

Here's how it works...

You are asked to arrive one hour before the show starts (I think we got there around 45 minutes early). You wait outside (the Wilderness Lodge grounds are lovely by the way) and they will take your family picture prior to going in. About 20 minutes before the show starts they open the doors and you are seated. They ask you at the door if you are Category 1, 2 or 3 seating (it's on your ticket) and direct you accordingly. And yes, Category 1 is the closest to the stage. Category 2 & 3 are further back and upstairs in the balcony. But really, there are no bad seats, it just depends on how close you want to be to the actual performers and stage.

We were staying on Disney property and took the bus from our resort to MK and then at the entrance you catch a ferry to the Wilderness Lodge. It's a lovely 15-minute boat ride. Then you walk to the WL where HDD is performed.

After you get seated they take your drink orders and the Pioneer Players come out and do an intro. The show is very slap-stick comedy with lots of musical numbers and some hilarious characters. We loved it. Basically, the PP come out between each of the courses. And yes the food is all you can eat and it is served by servers. We found our server to be very attentive and friendly. The only thing we got a refill on was the chicken because my son can eat scary amounts of food!! :rotfl: but they will refill anything you ask (this INCLUDES beer and wine!) mmmm...refreshments! :upsidedow

The show is done in about an hour and a half...and then they bring in the next group about 10 minutes later after you leave. Oh, and during the meal, your server will show up with your pic that was taken outside and you can buy it...which we did...it's a nice souvenir.

Hope you enjoy the show!!

We were told 1/2 hour early. We weren't let in till 9:30 for the 9:30 show.
And it's NOT at the Wilderness Lodge, it's at Fort Wilderness. Big difference.

It is served Family style. Our salad and corn bread was on the table when we walked in and could start on that right away. The show starts and then takes breaks while different courses are served. The waiters come on stage for the finale and have your shortcake and bring it out while the show finishes up. (it's part of the show) It is alot of fun. We didn't do the pictures out front. There was only a small gorup at our show, and I didn't see many who did. The background was just basic and it was dark out, so I didn't figure on a very good picture anyways.
My DD was also picked to be the bell ringer . She was letting everyone know that it was time to come in.

We were there last September. Most of the food was, basically, inedible. The ribs were all fat. The chicken was dry and tough. The salad was okay. Iceberg lettuce, but edible. Corn bread was fine. Dessert is a gloppy mess. The show is cute.

We have done both shows numerous times and the HDDR wins hands down everytime. The food has always been very good at both. Although my kids prefer HDDR! The food is brought to your table and always plenty of it. :)

Well excuuuuuse me!! Fort Wildnerness, Wildnerness Lodge...whatever...they're going to tell you when you pick up the tickets anyways...geesh.

We were told to be there an hour early...maybe that's because we were at the earlier show...and pretty much everybody had their picture taken when we went...mind you it was late afternoon and not yet dusk...

Bottom line - it's a great show and we thought the food was wonderful. We are not Disney experts by any means but we've never had a bad meal or bad service yet.

Enjoy the show!!:grouphug:

dmmichelle -- being from the Maritimes as well, I think I will go by your review.

Can you tell me what time the early show is? We aren't staying on Disney, so do you have any idea where the best place to purchase tickets are?

Nice to see neighbors on here. I'm from NS

Not sure why you are being so snippy? I was just correcting it, because alot of people make that mistake and go to the wrong place. You will lose alot of time doing that and may miss the time. Wilderness Lodge is a totally different place and not a camp ground either. Both are beautiful though. But these boards are for giving correct info too. Sorry you took offense.

I was born in NS...most of my family lives there...cool.

We went to the 7:00 show...there might be an even earlier one? 5:00 but I'm not positive...and there's a later show as well but who wants to eat that big a meal at 9:00 at night...bleah...

Just call the Disney Dine number...tell them your dates and they can tell you what times the show is scheduled and prices for the different Tier seating levels.

Have a great time!!:goodvibes

I've been to both and prefer the food and entertainment at HDDR much more than the Luau...the fired chicken and ribs were both amazing. The show was cute and funny for all ages!

I always laugh at people who praise or criticize the food at the hoop dee do. It is what it is - fried chicken and ribs - not the best in the world, not the worst ever, just middle of the road food to go with a funny show. I think its worth the money, especially if you have a couplafew beers or sangrias.
I'm disapointed they don't have more dinner shows at WDW; I've never understood why.

Well, the OP asked specifically, "How is the food at Hoop De Doo Revue"

I answered the question! Terrible!

Fair enough. I guess a better response from me would have been "Don't go there for the food, because its just average."
