Hi everyone! We'll be staying at AKL the first weekend of March. I know the restaurants have a more African cuisine, but do they offer some foods I'll recognize, especially for DS who is 1 and eats what we eat. He has had some spices in his food but I don't want to go overboard with him.

Hi there - I think you'll find some choices that will appeal to him. Check out the menu's here on the dis & you should be able to look at everything they have.

(it's up top - click on the dining - then go to menus - to AKL)

Boma is just the BEST! Both for breakfast and dinner, they have food for everyone!

Mara is just like any other food court

Jiko is the most incredible place for dinner at WDW.....DH was hesitant since we had Boma dinner the night before and neither of us like it at all but dinner at Jiko was just amazing and both us cannot wait to go back there.

Boma breakfast is the best one onsite!

We stayed there for 21 nights and we loved the food. At Mara, the food is pretty normal, with a slight african flavour, like the chicken caesar (that I was addicted to), has some mild spices, but not too spicy. African spices seemed to be more sweet, rather than hot like chilli.

Jiko the food is amazing, but again they do have regular childrens menus.
The filet mignon is just heaven on its mac and cheese that is the best I have ever eaten. The food at Boma is just normal food, some of the hot food has african flavour but again, not hot and spicy, very mild spices. The food on the Boma breakfast buffet was the best we had at WDW, really good.

Your DS should find plenty to eat there.
