We booked our trip for Oct 2-8th and low and behold, come to find out the Food and Wine festival is during that time. Happy coinsidence.
DH and I will have our 2 kiddos (5 and 4) and we are all excited to try some new things without busting our budget.
We do have the dining plan, and will use our snack credits as best we can (based on cost).
So this all being said, if we wanted to try 3-4 dishes and a couple drinks which should be chose?
The idea is that it would be best if we could all share one thing..just to try it. Of course the beer, champagne and margaritas are for dh and I ;)
SO what dishes are the largest? WE aren't picky eaters... love it all. What are YOUR recommendations?
Saw the Perogie at the Poland stand... we LOVE perogies..I make them all the time. Unfortunately I think one perogie just wouldn't be enough for all 4 of us. lol
Pics would be awesome too!!

The Fisherman's Pie and Baileys cake are great at Ireland. The cake is tiny though. At Argentina the Grilled Beef Skewer with Chimichurri Sauce was good last year. We liked the Seared Barramundi with Blistered Cherry Tomatoes, Arugula, and Lemon Oil in Australia. Germany-Spätzle Gratin with Ham and Cheese. Beef in a Pita Pocket and Iced Mint Tea at Morocco. At South Africa the Seared Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Purèe and Mango Barbecue Sauce is one of the best things at the festival. I rarely eat meat and will probably get that this year.

I had the pirogies at the Poland booth last year. They were lousy. Won't be trying them again.

A couple of years ago they weren't awful, but last year they were.

I wasn't a big fan of the fisherman's pie like everybody else was. It's OK for a pile of cheesy mashed potatoes but I could not taste any seafood. That may be a good thing as I don't like lobster. (didn't order one - ate half of a friend's pie)

I think my favorites were the New Orleans bread pudding (they're moving the bread pudding to America this year) and the spicy Canadian sausage and a fish they were selling at the Spanish booth. My all time favorite was the beef stroganoff back when they used to have a Russia booth. I'm not a big meat fan but that stuff was good.

New Zealand Seared Sea Scallop with Vegetable Slaw and Lemon Oil:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

Our favorite was at South Africa, seared beef tenderloin with sweet potato purèe and mango bbq sauce. My kids loved the spatzle at Germany too. I purchased the cookbook just for the recipe for the dish at South Africa.

I loved the crawfish etouffe at the Louisiana booth, but that appears to be gone this year. The lobster roll is really good.

The special Sam Adams festival beer was fabulous two years ago, but not as good last year. Here's hoping the 2010 festival beer is a good one!

Cabernet Braised Short Ribs with Mashed Potatoes (France), Tuna Sensation (Japan) $$$ and the Red Snapper Escabeche (Spain).

But there are several new items this year to try!
Spain is changing the fish dish this year to a Seared Albacore Tuna with Romesco Sauce.
The South Korea Lettuce Wrap with Roast Pork is delicious. It was served at the Sneak Peek put on by TiW.
Italy has a new dish ... a Polpettine Toscane ...meatball
I think noshing around the World Showcase will be more interesting this year!

sad to hear that about the perogies. AH well... lots of great things to try...
the menu looks great, even though I don't know what the majority of it is. lol
SO for drinks.. we aren't huge wine drinkers but mainly because we are unexperienced. We definitely like a sweet wine. ANy suggestions?
I am a beer drinker, like a dark ale. I see they have guiness on the menu, but I can get that at home. :)
DH is more of a sweet drinks kinda guy. Slushies and snapps are right up his alley. I have seen a peach snap tea slushie they used to have in CHina, but is no longer on the menu so I guess that one is out. :confused3

is there a list somewhere of the prices of the menu of the link pp#1?

My family really liked the crab cakes (USA) and braised short ribs (France) (but I think they were similiar to ones you can get at Les Chefs de France).

Try the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup... with no reservation required at Le Cellier! The portion may not be that big, but I'm pretty sure one serving has enough calories for the entire family to share. Yum!

That does look quite good! I am whole heartedly Canadian and have never tried this. The maple salmon sounds great as well...however, that is more common here ;)

What is the Samuel Adams beer? Seems like it is talked of a lot so this may be shocking, that I, a beer drinker, have never had this brand. I love my local dark ale, Alexander Keiths. (not at the Canadian Pavillion ;) ) So should I try this beer? Or some exotic other country's beer?

We are torn between using up snack credits (which dh says no way) and paying out of pocket. Not that we are going to get all that much, we do have 2 meal credits each that day so we won't be all that hungry. But I LOVE to try new and cultural foods. All your suggestions are great! And I will have to try and find some pictures, and/or in some cases an explanation as to what it is. ;)

I'm not a beer drinker at all, but DBF LOVES Samuel Adams. He doesn't drink but maybe once a year and it's always SA. It's a Boston Lager, so a kind of dark beer. He did NOT like last years special beer for F&W. I'm not much help with beer sorry.

Our family of three (DD is 5) went during free dining last year, and we used up as many snack credits as we could trying lots of different things at F&W at the start of the trip. Figured we'd go OOP on other snacks if needed, but we found ourselves stocking up on lots of extra "snacks" that we got part of our CS meals (fruit, bottled drinks, etc.), and in the end we still had snack credits leftover to burn through at the very end of the trip...

But admittedly we did have a small Garden Grocer delivery of snacks and beverages for the room as well.

There are several different flavors of Sam Adams, and at the Hops & Barley booth (at the American Adventure) they usually have at least 6 different kinds to try. The regular Sam Adams and the Sam Adams Light are both fairly light lagers (think along the lines of Harp). The Octoberfest is a bit darker and maltier (my personal favorite) and the Cream Stout I also think is really good. There's always a special Sam Adams F&W festival brew each year as well, but this year it's a Coastal Wheat Light so I'm not sure if I'll like it or not. Also new this year is a Blackberry Witbier which I do want to try!

As far as other countries, there is usually beer at many of the booths, some we've loved, some we've hated, but it's always fun to try. DH and I aren't big wine drinkers, but we both love our beer so we always sample several. :)

DH would love the mojito slush..well, to share ;) lol Bacardi is more up my alley I think. I didn't even know what a pierogie was until I moved to Vancouver and a roomate made them for me. We just do the frozen kinds... we will get to PA on one of our road trips (we live in NB Canada) and I WILL find this pierogie territory. Sounds AWESOME. Might have to go next summer now that I think about it. :rotfl:

prices aren't out for 2010 yet.
Ty, I will keep my eyes open...do they normally come out before the opening?

DH and I aren't big drinkers. Used to be, then kids came and well.. ya know. So if we drink more than 3 drinks we will be out. The kids will have to push us back in their strollers. :lmao: Which is why I suggested we share a drink so we both can try it. But I will def have to try Sam Adams. Will have to check to see if we can get it here at our liquor stores. I am a dark ale girl, but not too picky. Not sure if I would be too keen on a sweet beer, not crazy for a bitter beer.

This is all great info guys, thanks so much! I can't wait to go and get lots of pictures to post up on the DIS boards. :)

Sam Adams is OK- not great. You could probably get some better beers from this country at Publix;) Stone, Rogue, Dogfishhead, etc.
