Food and Wine Half Marathon ANNOUNCED!!!!

Diane - I think she enjoyed the race, but I mentioned the half and she said no way. We'll see. Might be a quick trip for me solo.

I figure if I can fly in for TOT solo why not a half right... LOL

I see no reason why you can't (so says the one who ALWAYS leaves her spouse behind LOL).

Besides, it's your birthday/Christmas gift right? LMBO

Anyways, perhaps she will change her mind? There really isn't that much to get excited about yet who is on the fence. My Dad is even eh over the 5K but we figure give them a bit of time to adjust to the idea and then they'll be more open to it ;)

Hope you can convince her to join you! We don't bite!

I am excited about this half marathon. I signed up for an earlier half marathon and then was injured. But now my two broken ankles are healed and i am excited about this one. Any tips for those beginning the training?

I was so determined NOT to do this race (even though I LOVE Epcot and will pretty much take any excuse to spend more time there!), but then I go and get a resort PIN code that includes that weekend, today....

Hmmm.... a quick Friday to Sunday trip in October isn't seeming like such a bad idea, now. I'm going to wait until November 16 to hear the details on the race (like the after-party and the start time) and then I might book a room with my PIN just to hold the dates, just in case.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I should NOT tell DH. :lmao:

I had decided to register for the lottery for the Nike San Francisco Half and see if I could get into that race for my fall race. My sister lives there so I have a free place to stay, so it would be a relatively cheap race (other than airfare!) ...

But I REALLY want to do this race... so do I wait and see how quickly it fills? :confused3 The Nike lottery is in March, but the F&W could fill long before that, and if I don't get in the lottery I definitely want to have a slot in this one... And we've never been for Food & Wine and have always wanted to.

To further complicate things, if we ARE going to do the fall race, then we absolutely can justify buying an AP for 2010, so I have to decide before we buy our tickets for January. Can this get any more complicated?

If we look at how fast the other fall races, and the Princess Half, have been filling, I'd say you're likely just fine waiting until March. Who knows, this race could fill faster, but I wouldn't count on it. The Princess Half isn't even 50% filled yet, and it's only 4ish months off, and I would guess that the princess theme is a bigger crowd pleaser than the food and wine theme. Well, not if you aren't a princess, I guess.... :confused3

I'd love to do the Nike SF Women's Half, but this fall is going to be touchy as to whether I can commit to a race 6 months in advance, health wise, so I'm going to keep my eyes open until the last minute for the food and wine half!

Part of the reason the Princess Half isn't filling up as quickly as say the Half in Jan could be because it's geared more towards women. Where as the one in Jan, and the Wine & Dine coming up, are co-ed themed (if you will).

If they changed the theme to "Prince & Princess" then that might help get more guys to sign up for it.

Don't know if any of you saw the Disney Chat on 10/29 but they have announced the race will start at 10 pm (Disney didn't want to shut down bust Sat night of F&W). This means someone like myself wouldn't finish until about 30 min before party ends. Obviously no time to eat or ride. Very disappointing :( I will probably skip the race now. With an expected $150 fee(to cover the party), just not worth it.

What is everyone elses take on it?

BTW: Relay exchange will occur in one of the 3 parks you run through(my guess AK, DHS, and Epcot)

I don't have the time issue so I think this race would be a lot of fun. I could see how it would lose some appeal though if you were not able to take advantage of the party.

The deciding factor for me is cost. I always wanted to do the ToT or RFTT but just couldn't justify going down for anything short of a half unless I was already going to be there anyway. This year and next I decided to do races closer to home or in locations where I have a friend I can stay with. I am going to try and do the January full in 2011 and if the money is there go for the coast to coast. This means that without a real good deal I won't be doing the F&W next year and probably not in 2011 either.

I am not completely ruling it out because Southwest could have a killer deal and we could get our pay cut rescinded making it much easier. For right now though my Disney race is going to be limited to WISH meets next year. So far I know I will at least get to one at the Indy. There are times I miss living in Clearwater. These are usually reserved for Disney race weekends, DIS podcast events, and snowy days in March when the allure of winter has outlived its welcome :)

Frank: We will know more in 2 weeks when reg opens.

A lot of us had these issues with first ToT. By the time we finished, no time to do anything else.

Maybe I will just volunteer or go to F&W another time.

Has anyone heard when the 5K will be? I'm trying to set aside some DVC points for this half and depending on when the 5K is we might bring the kids along so they can run that. Thanks!

You should do the 5K with the kids and than take a nap and do the Half in the evening :)

Yeah I'm sure they will want you up to do a 5k at 7ish so on a bus before what 6? Then do the half starting at 10 and likely on a bus no later than 8. I may be rethinking my commitment to the 5k now.

Chris? It's Mickey's Halloween 5K! How could you resist? Sleep the next day ;)

Diane and Robert - I know, I know. :rolleyes1

I just don't go back to sleep and nap unless I'm sick and I don't want to be doing that at Disney again. Not fun.

Waiting on more details to come out.........

I am not a very good napper either. However I think I need to try the two just the once for the inaugural year and then see if I continue doing it moving forward. :)

:lmao: But I hear you on the nap. It is so hard to go back afterwards and sleep while you are in Disney! I'll be doing it because a possible 5K in the MK? I'll be there for that! (hoping they don't change the park) and as it stands I think both of my parents are doing the 5K so have to be up anyways LOL

Eagerly awaiting more details here too :)

Hi all:)

I am not a runner....however, this race appealed to me....thinking I can become one by next year...or at least a novice, or really fast walker...lol

After reading this thread and doing some research, totally feel intimated now!!

Would definately have to get into better shape for this....
I would hate to miss the afterparty...however, I would love to accomplish the race.

I have seen some sites for training for novices.....has anyone ever seen just fast walkers in the marathons? I am going to the gym to time myself again on the treadmill....just to get an idea where I am at 16 1/2 minutes!!

I had started a thread abt this marathon on the Theme parks board...lol..but someone wasnice enough to lead me here!
