Food and Wine Half Marathon ANNOUNCED!!!!

Don't forget to add at least the regular F&W prices you would pay normally in Epcot. This means another $20-$25 on top of $135 reg fee.

I am thinking of doing the 5K through MK(probably $40) and take the extra $95 and spend a full day at F&W instead of the only 1 1/2 hrs I would have at the post race party after finishing the Half. Does this make sense?

I like your idea...lol ;)

I had been waiting for today...for some reason...thinking this through before I join up. I am a newbie, this would be my 1/2 half.....I am new around these parts....lol..signed up for my first 5K in 3 weeks.....have lots of time to prepare physically/mentally....I love the route...
Well, I enjoy reading all the comments!

Does anybody have any idea how fast the half marathon will fill up? Thought somebody out there may know how long it took for other disney races to fill up. Still need lots of time to think about this.

The Half in January fills rather quickly, but the Princess 1/2 is much slower to fill and at this point still hasn't hit the 50% mark. The Marathon is still not filled and after they reopened Goofy it took it a very long time to fill.
TOT and RFTT took up until about a month out or even closer to fill.

I think you have plenty of time to decide, but would just watch the Disney site or this one to let you know how close it is to filling.

With it being an Inaugural race it may fill faster than the Princess is, but from what I keep reading people are balking at the price.

I personally don't think $15 is that much more. For the Half in January and at Disneyland it's $120. No after party. No sip and taste. Nada. I thought it was going to be in the $150-$160 range.

I'm waiting to sign up for a while, but look forward to this race. No need to give them my money already. :thumbsup2

The route sounds like fun! For me, a night owl, this is the perfect first 1/2. :goodvibes Doing a 1/2 and then a Food & Wine Party....sounds pefect.

Disney doesn't like to post race prices until registration opens. My guess would be $40 as that is there standard charge.

I thought they would open registration for the 5K and half together. Kind of strange that they didn't. They must not have all the logistics worked out yet for the MK.

Disney has started this as a new trend. They opened the DL 1/2 before this years race but just opened the 5K(just noticed today).

The 2010 DL 5K is now $50 !!! This is $10 more than this year. This means Halloween 5K will be at least $50

I'm on the fence with the race for a lot of reasons. The first is that fall is always a difficult time of year for us--we're having trouble getting consistent training in for January.

The cost, eh. Disney races are overpriced, IMO. Like lots of Disney. And I still go, again and again and again. :rotfl2:

For me, though, it's the timing of the race--starts at 10:00, which is late for me to start a race. I was tired before ToT last year so didn't really take advantage of the post-race celebration.

The Wine & Dine after-party is only open until 1:00, and I'm sloooooooowwwww, so even if I had the energy....

Anyway, enough about my issues. What did you think about the two-person relay option? I thought it was strange that the split the relay into a 5.1 and 8 mile leg--I can see why, but still thought it was strange. And I wouldn't want to be the second person, when I could spend more time at the party.

They posted new info on the page now.....http://disneyworldsports.disney.go....ventDetail/detail?name=HalfMarathonDetailPage

claims the party goes til 3 am...yowsa!

Anyway, I am in the World usually the week before this for F & W with friends...needed something to motivate me into getting back into shape....decided that this is it....!
Registered last night!!

My first 1/2 marathon.....am a night owl...looking forward to my new physical/emotional journey!

The psrty goes until 3:00am :)

Doh! I knew that, and typed in the wrong time. Maybe I just have a hard time believing the 3 a.m. party time. Old and decrepit, I tell you, that's what I am. :lmao:

Still, that doesn't quite help me overcome the other reservations about my energy level after doing a half that time of night. Unless I took the race really, really easy and what fun is there in that? (Of course, at my pace....)

See? I told you all I'm old and a curmudgeon. :rotfl2:

IDK, maybe you all could convince me...but I think I'll have to hold out and see what other promises Disney makes about the race--they're already warning us that the park is closed, so shows and attractions might not be available. Yep, you're right--I'm greedy and want the whole enchilada. Anything to help me stay up past my bedtime AND enjoy myself.

Knock it off with the old comments

I'll be out there with my walker *rolling my eyes at Debra who is my age group* But I'm holding off handing over the money for a bit. I'm going to try and wait till after 2010 Marathon Weekend as I will probably will registering 2 of us.

I'm eager to see what else they have going on in the after party. As it stands now it will just be the 2 of us that are doing the race. My parents won't come to the finish since for the price it really won't be worth it to them. Plus they won't have a car and I imagine DTD busing won't work for them to even see us as we pass the Epcot Resorts heading to the finish. So they'll probably hit the parks instead.

I know 2 out of 4 are a go for the 5K. I'm sure the other 2 will eventually be talked into it LOL

So for the mother of all entry fees, you only get one taste and one "sip"? Heck, at least with RFTT you got 3 tastes and a beverage. Basically, they are charging money for an "Extra Magic Hours" evening, and not offering much at that. Atleast with other hard ticketed items, you get something--tick or treating or whatever they do at Xmas.

I was interested in this in concept, but the details are really disappointing. Looks like I'll pass this one up. Now maybe is DS gets in and decides to go to USC, I can do the DL 1/2........
