For all of you that have food allergies let me reassure you that Disney does an absolutely amazing job making sure that everyone's needs are met. I have never at any restaurant in any part of the world take such concern over food allergies.

I have an allergy to MSG and we recently spent the day in AK. We went to Yak and Yeti (which was great BTW) and a chef/cook came out to address my allergy and told be that MSG is in 2 dishes. No problem.

Than evening we did the grand gathering Safari dinner and again a Chef, who seemed to be higher up came out and I told him about my allergy to MSG. He told me that WDW does not use MSG. I told him what Yak and Yeti told me and he said.... "interesting, I did not know that" He then said "come back in 2 days and there will be NO MSG on that menu" They take these things very seriously and I applaud them for their efforts.

That's awesome. We have peanut allergies and wheat sensitivity and WDW really treated us well. You do have to make sure you double check everything, but they do a great job once they know. :)

ITA. The chefs at WDW are the best for understanding food allergies. I only have 4: Barley (aka Beer), Soy, MSG, and my fave--Corn. Luckily the barley is the only one I have to avoid totally. I can tolerate the others in small quantities.

They try...I give them that however the last time I was there in Aug 07 we ate at Chef Mickey's with a friend of mine that has a 4 yo son that is highly allergic to ALMOST everything and there was a great deal of confusion.

Two different chefs came the table to s/w the mom. They brought out bread w/ out gluten and gave her the extras in the bag. Nice idea but then we noticed the bread in the bag had a great deal of mold on it. That went back. Then they brought out two different dishes at two different times...cookies and I think a pie that they said was ok. Two minutes later they came running out yelling...no, no don't let him eat that.

I was a nervous mess about it and he is not even my child. Luckily he was so tired he was napping and missed all of the offered food.

The Mickey pasta also had something in it that he had a reaction too. They told her it was fine for him. It was only after she read the ingredients on a bag in a gift shop that she knew what the problem was.

Again...I know they try but you have to be sooooo careful.

We are going back this year with the same family but this time the mom will prepare all of her son's food in the villa.

Unfortuntately, there are certain people that shouldn't eat in restaurants or anywhere, where they cannot absolutely control every ingredient. It sounds like your son's friend is one of them. Disney does an absolutely amazing job with allergies.
