I have been waiting all day for a call back from a "chef" as I have a ADR tomorrow. Does anyone know if onions are cooked at Ohana's? and if so are they cooked on the open flame or used as seasoning?

I'm not sure how they're cooked but I believe there's onions in the potatoes they serve for breakfast. I remember avoiding the potatoes when we had breakfast there last December because they had onions and I can't eat onions.

My son who is in renal failure and is very restricted in what he can eat had the BEST meal at Ohana's ( dinner). The chef there was so kind and attentive and brought him special foods that were delicious since the "rubs" they use on their meats do have a lot of sodium. I'm sure they could prepare you something separate if the standard fare contains onions. You've done the right thing by contacting them in advance.---Kathy

I have to say the chefs at Ohana's REALLY dropped the ball on this one. I tried to get ahold of them for two days and could not get a return call(after leaving several messages at a couple different numbers). A few hours before our ADR a chef called and left me a msg advising me not to come to Ohana's as they could not accomidate my allergy. They told me to call them back and they would try and get me a ADR at another place. They NEVER answered the phone.! So I had to scramble at the last minute to find something else.

Sorry that turned out poorly for you. We just got back and did eat at o'hana's. Sis is allergic to chocolate and so just about always skips dessert everywhere. But since it was part of the meal, we asked if chocolate was in the bread pudding /bananas foster mix? Before we started our meal the pastry chef came out and talked to us. yes, white chocholate is in the dessert. He suggested plain ice cream, she said no thanks that's ok. And he asked about if she would like the "old" dessert pineapple and carmel. Oh yes, she liked that. So they served me the new dessert and her's came too. A huge bowl of pineapple and carmel. Several other disney resturants told her, no everything has some chocolate in it, and never tried to accommadate her.

My son also had the pineapple and caramel for his dessert. I'm really surprised they didn't offer to cook something separately without onions. My son can't have sodium, potassium, phosphorus, or calcium....yet they found for him a filet from Kona, skewered shrimp w/o seasoning, a salad, special bread/no sodium butter, and the dessert. He was in heaven as usually his meals are boring, tasteless, and barely edible. We had a horrible experience at Boma so I guess it may depend on which chef is on duty ( and that really shouldn't be the case).---Kathy

That's not right. It's hard enough making last minute ADRs at Disney, much less having to worry that your dietary needs can be accomodated. I would complain to someone higher up in dining services. Either the chef should have accomodated you or let you know immediately that he couldn't and made arrangements for you elsewhere. Disney prides itself in helping folks with dietary restrictions. I don't think those in charge would be pleased with the service (or lack of) you got. :sad2:
