Just a little report from our trip a few weeks back. We traveled as a party of 7 with 5 adults a 3 1/2 and a 13 month old.

My mother-in-law has Celiac Disease. She can't have any food with gluten or wheat in it.

I have to give 2 thumbs way up to all the chefs from all the resturaunts we ate at during our trip. I did make not on all our ADR's that we had a food alergy and it was noted on our reservation each time we checked in that a chef would come to our table.

At Chef Mickey's the chef (Nick) came out and took my MIL personally around the buffet and let he know what was in everything and what she could not eat. He also made her a special desert, fresh baked gluten free chocolate cake.

At The Crystal Palace, she also got a personal buffet tour from the chef (Don't recall his name) and he made her fresh hot gluten free dinner rolls and a gluten free brownie sundea. He also provided her with a print out copy of the web site where they order their gluten free food.

At Alfredo's, the Manager on Duty had rice speghitti specially made for her to go with their own red sauce (SO much better than the jar stuff at a super market). He also told us that they serve on average 10-15 people per day that have celiac disease.

At Liberty Tree Tavern, the chef came out and made a special plate for her (the stuffing has bread made with wheat and is on the same plate at the turkey, ham and roast beef) and also made a very good tasting gluten free brownie/cake shaped like Mickey Mouse and her own dinner rolls.

At Donald's Breakfastasauraus, the chef made her gluten free Mickey Mouse Pancakes and Mickey Mouse Waffles and also brought out her own plate with eggs, sausage and bacon.

and at Hollywood & Vine, she again got a personal buffet tour with the chef who again made her gluten free bread and a special desert.

We were all very impressed with the service provided by all the Disney Chef's at all our meals. They went above and beyond. Exactly what you'd expect from Disney.

A job well done!! A great big thanks for the Disney Chef's!!! :cool1: :worship:

Thanks so much for posting.

Your post gave me high hopes. Many of the places I want to eat are on your list.

Our issues are milk and eggs, but they are pretty commom and I would really love it if they actually had some desserts we (DD and I) could eat.

Getting exctied and hopeful. Thanks for posting. :goodvibes

How was counter service for you? Were they good about letting you know what was in things? Dairy and eggs can be rather hidden sometimes.

Yes - Disney is my favorite place to go since we are so 'eating challenged'. The chefs always accomodate myself and my daughter - between us there are severe allergies to tree nuts, peanuts, eggs, and all shellfish.
DisneyPhD - there is a number to call that they give you when you make ADRs - if you phone, they will send you print outs that outline potential food allergy issues for all restaurants and counter service - I forget the woman's name but I know that I was given this when I called CRT to confirm that the food issues were all set. Good Luck!

Thanks for the report. WDW does a great job of handling food allergies. It is so nice when people who have to deal with allergies on a daily basis can go on vacation and enjoy great food that has been prepared to meet their needs. :)

Thanks so much. I have been putting off making my ADR's. Part of me doesn't want this trip that planned out (it will be our 3rd on these AP, but the 1s dealing with the food allergies limits. The baby was 9 months old last and mostly ate baby food, and was't bothered by any food in my diet.)
I am going to call today though. I will ask for the number because there are number of CS places we want to eat and I would love to know what is safe ahead of time. That way I don't have to decied when I get to the counter and have presure on me. ;)

Ok, you have inspired me and I called MS (for DVC) and made some PS (ADR's whaterver we are currently calling them.) for our upcoming trip. The good news is for the most part I was able to get every place with no problem at all (3 weeks from now.) I asked about CRT for lunch, just to see, but I wasn't surpized when it was booked! I figured worth a try though. :flower:

Anyway I booked, Ohanna's, Crystral place (lunch) Liberity tree tavern, Lunch, Garden Grill. (dinner) and LaCelier (Dinner.) We might do some more, but I figure I will wait and see (since I had no problem getting the ADRs at this time and those are the ones I really want.

My question is while she marked them the ADR as no dairy and egg for 2 out of the 4 members, should I call ahead of time? I would love to be able to eat some kind of dessert (I am not picky) and bread at places. Do you guys think this is somehting they can do and if I should call ahead? I was thinking about asking a Ohannas, especailly since I know I can't have the bread pudding.

Also she was not able to give me a number to find out about the CS places.

I did spend some time in the bookstore this afternoon and read parts of the passporter for specail needs and a book on vegitarian at WDW (Vegan foods are non dairy and eggs, but I love meat! )

I would call ahead of time - can't hurt. I did, though they said they would be able to fully accomodate me at the time of the seating - but that is also when I was able to leave a message for someone who emailed me the counter service information - unfortunately, I didn't save the document and you would want the most recent since ingredients can change. I would try the number for Crystal Palace and see if you don't get results there as I had called a Magic Kingdom restaurant when I got the information. Good luck and let us know how you get on...

I called ahead to only 1 place, Chef Mickey's. That was our first resturaunt. A chef called back within 10 minutes. He told me there wasn't a need to call head to each resturaunt. Just let them know at the desk when you check in. It will be noted on your slip that is given to the waiter or waitress and they will let the chef know. At the other 5 resturaunts we visited I neved called ahead and a chef (or Manager in the case of Alfredo's) came out to our table within 5 minutes of us sitting down.

If its not noted ahead of time on your reservation just tell the host/hostess when you check in and they'll advise the wait staff, etc...

That was for our case. I would definately suggest at least calling your first resturaunt and tell them of your alergy and see what they say from there.

I was thinking of waiting until a few days before and calling Ohanana's, our 1st ADR and asking if it was possible to have some kind of dairy free dessert since I know the bread pudding is off limits. I would love to try it though, it sounds yummy.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am really looking forward eating good on vacation. :goodvibes

Did anyone get the number to call for the handout outlining potential allergens in CS meals? Or should I just call WDW-DINE? That was great advice and this handout would come in handy for my DS(4) who has a life-threatening tree nut allergy and mild peanut allergy.

Thanks to all who posted - sounds like Disney is THE PLACE to eat and not worry about food allergies! This will give me some piece of mind on our upcoming trip. :)

I called WDW-DINE after reading this thread yesterday to see if I could get the phamplet. The CM I talked to had no idea what I was talking about and couldn't find anything like this in their system. If anyone else has any luck getting their hands on this, please let me know. I'm not concerned about TS restaurants, but it would be wonderful to have for counter service restaurants.

Don't count on any fancy desserts for dairy-free needs... we had a total of 9 table service ADRs this past October, and while all the chefs/restaurants were very kind in helping my severely lactose-intolerate mom pick menu items, desserts were a sticking point. Basically, she was offered fruit and occassionally Rice Dream (rice milk ice cream which she hates). The highlights were a very nice balsamic reduction added to her strawberries at Wolfgang Puck Cafe and a beautiful presentation of her fruit at Rose and Crown. Still, after seeing all the beautiful baked desserts passing her by, my mom was not a happy camper by the end of the trip.

Also, with dairy restrictions the only potato choice anywhere was french fries. We were usually just told, "No, she can't have rolls with dinner because they contain dairy. No, we can't change the way we make that." Her needs were on the ADR and I tried calling ahead at some places, but it didn't seem to make any difference. They always make sure that there is *something you can eat, but don't necessarily offer you any choice.

I think we wouldn't have been so disappointed if we hadn't hoped for more. I feel like the stories of specially baked cakes/desserts got our hopes up too high. They seem to be like towel animals: don't expect to get any, but if you do you can be pleasantly surprised.

We will be travelling with a 15 soon to be 16 year old while at DW on our trip in February. She is lactose-intolerate and fructose-intolerate and her Mom is in a panic about what she will be able to eat at DW. Can the person who has that pamphlet please contact me so that we can possibly arrange to either get a hard copy, fax or scanned copy sent via e-mail? I would really appreciate it.

I'm sorry - I didn't keep the lists that they sent me but it definitely had listings of the common food allergens used at Counter Service restaurant. When I had called the number that they gave me for CRT, there was a place to leave a message and when I left my email address, they emailed me this information. This was last year for our May trip so I would no longer trust the lists - recipes change, etc. I know that others on this board have gotten it too, so maybe someone else will remember the name at least of the woman who sends out that information. I will keep checking back on the thread and will check my home computer tonight to see if maybe I have a copy of it there.
