If this user is following pretty much every active poster on the CB right now, isn't that the same as sitting here and reading every thread?

You're right. Nothing will change unless you ask for it. Personally, I don't think it takes 10 pages to ask for something to be done. So it's much more than simply putting the request in. Regarding the bolded, you can't have it both ways. You can't say "people have a right to post their complaints" but then say no one can respond to those complaints. The question on what "following" does (provides a list of posts) and whether you can prevent someone from following you (you can't) has been answered multiple times on this thread.I think that old threads should be locked too. But how will that suggestion ever be heard if no one suggests it? I don't think the answer is to just leave when you don't agree. I don't think there's anything wrong with asking for features to be changed. This is a for profit message board run by a travel agency, so one would think they'd want to hear what features their customers (and sources of revenue) want. But then after there's been a discussion and the board operators give their answer, the people complaining either have to accept to or move on. On this thread people have been criticized for feeling uncomfortable in the first place and for daring to complain for ask a question. Maybe there's an unwritten rule that you can never state your opinions on board features that I missed somewhere. That can't be good for membership either.
I have 256, but sadly, so many are gone.I have 52 followers
But looking at them, a lot of them don't post here anymore and haven't for many years
For the software they are using, following can do things, but it has to be enabled. I don't think it's enabled.I'm not sure what following does.I don't follow anyone.
I figure that a follower is getting some kind of notice when I post something, but, if true, that particular member is up to following over 500 people. Under his avatar it says "I want someone to talk to is that too much to ask" I guess this is doing it for him.
So you are demanding that we take the same information that has been provided here multiple times by multiple people and send it to you in a personal email?
Why?
Well yes, almost every thread needs to reach 10 pages on this board. That's a given. I don't think people in this thread are complaining about being criticized as much as people are complaining that those that are saying they are uncomfortable aren't accepting the explanation that following is the same as reading posts or clicking on a user's profile. People have state that this particular situation still makes them uncomfortable and others continue to respond trying to change their mind. That's why most threads reach so many pages so quickly. Several people have provided reasonable explanations as to why they are uncomfortable, yet others still feel they need to respond. There are plenty of threads where completely unreasonable views are expressed by an even smaller minority, yet even this one is being dragged out. I would say that if you don't like the length of the thread, you might want to stop your respond count at 10, because that's contributing to its length. Also, the posts that are just images, which don't contribute but make the thread longer. If people don't like the length of threads on this board, should they post in the thread criticizing the length of threads, or just stop reading this board? In the case of not being followed, that is a feature that could be disabled. People want to state their case as to why they think it should be. You don't get to air your complaints and not allow others to do so to.You're right. Nothing will change unless you ask for it. If people are upset because they've been "criticized" (and if there's any, I think it's very minor) in this thread, maybe they shouldn't be on internet message boards in the first place.
But people need to remember that he is developmentally delayed. One of my sisters is on the autism spectrum (probably would say she's developmentally like a 5 year old), and he developmentally reminds me also of a 4-5 year old. A lot of the stuff he is asking is stuff I have heard from my sister (she asked DM/DGM a few weeks ago about how they fed their infant children after learning about it in health class), but to DSis it's simply her trying to be friendly (she can't fully grasp the idea that certain things should not be asked at certain times or is considered private information).Sorry, but it isn't desirable to me to be followed by someone that asks, "Did you ever wear pull-ups?"
We're keeping an eye out there - and here too.If anything, I really hope mods are keeping a close eye on him (and his thread) simply because he is incredibly vulnerable.
Is he? Developmentally delayed, I mean. Do we know this? Or is it something that he has simply told us. Because you know, not everything you read on line is true. But people need to remember that he is developmentally delayed. Just so everyone knows, I am "watching" this thread. I don't mean to brag, but my stalking skills have now reached "expert" level.![]()

Wow. Yes, I do take his word for it. Just like I will take your word for it that someone named Mary happens to love a bear called Pooh. I get your point that just because "I read it on the Internet" doesn't make something true and, yes, there are deceptive people in this world. However, in order to get through life I have a general belief in the goodness of humanity to trust others. Maybe I'm too trusting, but I can't live being so skeptical. I can see no particular value to be gained by pretending something like that here on the DISboards.
Sorry, but it isn't desirable to me to be followed by someone that asks, "Did you ever wear pull-ups?"
Maybe they can't read upside down messages?![]()
