FOLKS LEAVING VIA MCO TODAY

Not a big deal at all. Happens 50-80 times every single week across the country. Tsa is very used to it and it causes very little delays.

Yep... you’d be surprised how many people think it’s ok to bring a loaded gun to the airport.

If you look into US Law Shield, you (generally speaking, not you personally) will see there are some areas within airport grounds that a handgun is allowed.

44 States allow lawful carry of firearms in the common terminal and baggage claim areas of airports. There are federal laws that restrict firearms, knives, and other weapons in the "sterile area" beyond the security checkpoint but the unsecured areas of the terminal are subject to state law.

Florida, and only five other states, make the entire airport terminal off limits even to carry license holders while armed. The US Supreme Court made it clear in DC v. Heller (2008) that Americans have the right to "carry weapons in case of confrontation," but this right can be restricted "in sensitive places".

The Federal government has determined that the "sterile area" is the "sensitive place" at an airport but Florida has gone much farther and banned even licensed carry inside the entire terminal, on this topic Florida is one of the most restrictive places in the country.

This has lead to confusion in the past even outside the terminal. In one case a lawful concealed carry licensee had his firearm become accidentally exposed while helping to unload luggage for someone who he was dropping off at the airport. Airport police overreacted and he ended up cuffed on the sidewalk outside until the officers realized their mistake.

How did they overrreact? I believe concealed means concealed, not concealed but not well enough when handling baggage. Serious question. Is proper police procedure to ask for proof of license before securing the weapon and potential threat?

Usually the term concealed means you're ALLOWED to conceal it versus having to keep it visible. In most places, the least restrictive case is open carry, since that way law enforcement and others know you have it.

We have a friend do it totally by accident. He didn't think it was OK but he did forget completely about having it in his bag till that moment security stopped his bag and pulled him aside. It was a VERY EXPENSIVE MISTAKE he made. Unfortunately for him, to make it worse, he was traveling alone at that moment, heading home to work, leaving the rest of the family on the beach at Cape Cod to finish vacation. He had a hard time calling anyone for help.

Was he allowed to ship it somewhere or have it checked?? Wondering what you mean by expensive....my husband lost an expensive knife like that once because we didn't think about getting out of line and shipping it home.

I would hope so, given the specifics of someone helping someone get their luggage out of his vehicle at, I assume, the drop off spot.

I don’t like or own guns, and even I don’t think cuffing someone in that scenario is a good place to start.

Expensive legal ramifications. He broke laws. Paid fines, etc. He was in airport jail for a while. Till he could reach his wife on the beach (and his wife NEVER has her phone turned on when home, which is a whole other story)
And I know what happened to the gun but can't recall now. It was something he was taking home that he'd picked up from his dad's house. He'd died earlier that year and he and his wife were cleaning out the house and he'd picked up the gun to take home and forgot to move it from his carry on to his packed bag.

LOL I didnt write the article. I shared what it said. :)

With a CHL/CCL, it means you can carry legally (as long as the business does not have a 30.0.6 sign on the door) anywhere as long as your weapon is not showing or printing on your clothing.

Most police, I know quite a few officers so I am not talking without knowledge, do not follow proper procedure. Because of how things are in the world, they will tend to profile somebody who is carrying legally, to make sure it is legal. It is not because they are abusing the badge, but because of aggression towards officers and other people. (Although, some do abuse the badge because they do not feel people like you and me should be able to carry and defend ourselves, but I have only known a few of those personally) They are supposed to ask you to allow them to remove the weapon from your holster and once they have secured it, they are to ask for your permit. Once you are clean and have done nothing wrong, they should return your gun to you. If you have done something wrong.... that is a totally different story.

I believe by "expensive" she means what it cost the guy... (legal fees, etc)
