Has anyone tried taking their child's wheelchair tray with them on a plane? Did you let it get checked with the chair or find somewhere for it on the plane? What did you do to make sure it arrived with the chair? I've flown with both my children who are/were in wheelchairs many times but we've never taken the tray with us. Now my son really needs his tray. It's not attached to his chair in any way-it just slides on. I need to make sure it gets to Florida and then home again with us. Any suggestions?

Bill has a tray for his wheelchair, we take it on the plane with us. We always fly South West. We bring it with us on board and they either take it to the back of the plane or put it in one of the overhead bins. We have never had an issue.

I took my wheelchair tray for my manual wheelchair when DH, Mom, and I went to Disney World this year with one of her co-workers. My mom was worried that we would have to check it. But, when we carried it on the plane, we discovered that it could fit both in the airplane closet, and in the overhead bin. It shouldn't count as baggage though because it's a medical device for a wheelchair. We carried it all the way to Orlando and back home without any problems.

Thanks for the replies. It makes me feel better knowing others have taken their trays with them and just carried them on board. I'll plan on doing that.
