Flying with unexposed and exposed film

I am sure that there are some more well travelled disers that know the answer to this question. How have you handled travelling with film via air with all the new security measures in place? Supposedly, I can take the film out of my carry-on baggage and ask the screeners to hand inspect it. Has anyone ever done this with flim? More imporatantly with exposed film? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You now should carry all film (exposed and unexposed) in your carry on. It's helpful to have it all in a clear plastic bag.

If they tell you that the xrays will not affect the film, do not believe them, some of the checked bagage scanners have increased the xrays and *may* effect them.

It is in your right, spelled out in the Homeland Security rules instituted after 9/11, that you can request things be hand inspected.

We have done this to our film at various airports and it was ok. One time in Orlando I was told they would hand scan it 'only if it's high speed film". So I said oh yeah, I've got some rolls of 800 in there. They hand scanned my 200 speed film.
