I have a question for all Pin Collectors. Has anyone had a problem flying with your pins? I am just curious if most people have put their pins in their carry-on luggage and has anyone had any problems with this. I am wondering if things have changed since 9/11. I am sorry if this has been discussed already but I don't frequent this board and I am sure that you guys would know the answer to my question. Thanks so much.

We have flew twice since 9/11 and have carried our pins on both trips. Be prepared to have your pin bags inspected page by page. I would never put my pins in my checked luggage because insurance would never cover the value of them. I called and was told that insurance costs $30 per $1,000 worth of coverage and since I have several $1,000 worth of pins it would cost a lot of money each way. I flew out of Dulles late Oct. and the bags were inspected carefully, but MCO knows what they are so you don't get the weird looks. Deb Wills has a section on her site too for just this subject WDWIG.com.

I have flown frequently with pins and usually all I get is a casual inspection. However, on January 1st I flew out of Orlando and had my pin bag pulled totally apart and every pin inspected. Be sure to have all your pins clearly visible in pin bags or in clear plastic bags. If there is anything that the security people cannot see through you could be there a lonnnnng time.

But I would never put my pins in my checked baggage. If they are now xraying all bags, one with a large amount of metal could get waylaid.
