DH collects pins and he always likes to keep them in his carry-on because they mean more to him that his clothes. ;) Anyway, this will be the first time we have flown since 9/11 and he was worried if they would allow him to bring them on the plane or if he would be forced to check them.

I was sure some of you here on this board would have already encountered this situation. What can you tell us?

Thanks!

I have flown several times since 9/11, and have never checked my pins. I always carry them with me. Since 9/11 however, you can bet that your bag will be scrutinized more with the pins in them. They will open your bag up, and usually run the strip of "bomb cloth" over your pins just to make sure nothing is in there. Other than that, I have not had any problems.

I have flown several times out of Providence, Baltimore & Orlando in the last few months and I have carried my pins in my carry on. Going out of Providence, the screener was a Disney Pin collector so of course she had to look at every pin. :)

I always tell the screener they are pins......so they won't freak when they see them. Flying out of Orlando was the easiest. They are used to seeing all those pins and didn't even blink.

I have heard many horror stories about people having items missing from their luggage now that you can't lock your suitcases anymore. Not just pins........all kinds of stuff. There was just a report the other night on NBC. I'm not taking a chance of my pins getting lifted...so I'll carry them on.

I know what you mean kathie when Flying out of Providence and Orlando !!!

When we flew out of Providence back in March, when I went through security I told the person that the smaller bag going through was full of Pins! and the person scanning must have heard me as when the bag went through I was planning on having to have it checked!! But it wnet through without any trouble!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

The same leaving ORlando told them what it was and they too didn't check!

Errr...While looking at a scan of my pin bag at Palm Springs, one security guard commented to the other, "Hey, that looks like Tinkerbell". After a search of my bag and the discovery of my new Tinkerbell Lanyard, the guard turned to me and said "Well, it's all about Tink anyway, huh"

That was the point where I introduced my boss and his boss to Disney pin trading on the front end of a business trip:-)
