flying with frozen meals

Well, respectfully, YOU should eat out and your DD should prepare whatever she wants to eat :umbrella: ;)

I was flying out of BWI one year the weekend after Thanksgiving and a woman wanted to get on with three homemade pecan pies; they considered it liquid and confiscated them. Boy, was she livid - she figured the TSA just wanted to eat some fresh pecan pies. They have to do their job.

People check large, duct-taped hard sized igloo coolers all the time. Just make sure it's under the weight/size restriction for your airline.

This seems to me to be a great idea! I fly to/from the Pacific NW all the time, and I see people checking their fish they have caught. Pack it up well, maybe use dry ice (there is a limit how much you can use--see the airline's regulations), tape it up in a cooler, and check it.

Why not?! :confused3

I never realized that pie eating was in the TSA bag screener job description :confused3 I learn something new every day.

Okay, you talked me out of it...I'll just use garden grocer and have them deliver to my room...but...I'll still bring my crock pot and make my meals before we leave for the park! I don't have the opportunity to cook for my family that often ( they now live in different states) and they really look forward to some of my home cooked meals. The parks are fun for us, but time as a family sitting around the table with one of "mom's meals" is just as much fun and important to us.

If you happen to be staying offsite, call ahead to see if there is a crock pot already available. Many, but not all, of the condos/homes we've rented have had a crock pot in the kitchen.

To answer the question about what I cook in the crock pot...My kids age 33 and 37 love pot roast in the crock pot - I just add cream of mushroom soup, lipton dry onion soup to the roast and add onions, carrots and potatoes. It makes it's own gravey and the beef is so tender, it just falls apart. A family favorite. I'm staying at BWV so I will need to bring my own crock pot. I also cook fresh turkey breast in the pot. It makes the most wonderful hot turkey sandwiches you will ever eat! Both really easy meals.

Hmmmm, PalVal...perhaps you could travel at the same time I do???? That way, I can send my 33 y/o dd over to eat with you guys!!! That will solve a lot of problems...she gets to eat home cooked meals, and I don't have to cook 'em!! We stay at BWV as well!!! Very convenient.

There is no reason why you cannot pack frozen meals with you if you want.

My husband goes fishing in Alaska and his fish is packed in a wax coated heavy duty cardboard box with ice packs. Just make sure the total weight does not go over the max weight. I think it is 50 pounds. The box could be thrown away later. He uses this box as 1 of his 2 checked luggage pieces.

Enjoy your family vacation!!!!

I used to empty my fridge into a large soft side cooler and check in on the plane. Had chicken/milk/cheese/hard boiled eggs/broccoli you name it. Must admit it was nice to have my home food, but I laugh now that I did that.
I have given up on those days and buy groceries in FL. Lightens my luggage load.

PalVal: I would love to learn how to make the hot turkey in the crockpot. What kind of turkey do you buy and what do you add to it? thanks from a West Coast girl looking for new recipes!:teacher:
