What type of ID does a 9 yr old and 12 yr need to fly on southwest. We are flying with friends and they asked.

Thanks

Anyone under 18 does not need and ID when flying domestically. To be thorough: no birth certificates, letters, or anything. TSA does not look at those types of things.

My kids are those exact ages. We've never needed or been asked for anything, but have taken their passports in case.

Unless you booked a child fare! They exist, though they they are usually more expensive than getaway fares. But if you did book a special rate based on their age then you need proof of that age.
