We have never used Allegiant air before but our airport has a great deal on a flight into Sanford....so thinking of doing that instead of driving - we are a 10 hour drive to Orlando area...has anyone used Allegiant? All go well? Any complaints?

Also they offer a deal with Alamo if you book your rental car through them....which is a better deal that, or booking with hotwire?

Thanks

Many posters have used Allegiant to Sanford. Consensus is that it is cheaper to book at the local airport rather than going through their website and generally no complaints.

Picking advance seats is a pp fee. You need to check Hotwire rates and compare to the Alamo cross marketing deal. Good luck with your decision.

We are also looking into Allegiant since SOuthwest is over $700 more. So if we drive to the airport to book how much do we save?

When we did that, we got a $100 "surprise" when we picked up our car in the form of taxes and fees that were not included when we rented our car directly the Allegiant. I would check out the full, final price with booking thru Allegiant vs. booking thru the rental car agencies that Sanford has onsite, along with checking a site like hotwire.com.

Other than that the flight was great. I prefer Sanford over Orlando. The drive was fine, there are a few tolls.

Love Allegiant and Sanford! Easy Drive to WDW. As the PP said watch the car rentals, price looks good but taxes and fees are not added to the car. We have never paid for seats or boarding, my sons are old enough to sit alone if needed. But we have always been seated together.

We used Allegiant 3 years ago and my mom and sister have also used it several times each. No problems or complaints from our end and no problems I've heard of from my mom's or sister's end. I know we used Alamo also that year and I'm pretty sure we booked through the Allegiant site; I don't remember having any surprises with our bill, but maybe things were displayed more clearly or I researched what the likely total cost would be?
I would definitely recommend giving Allegiant a try, especially if the total fare (including taxes, fess, checked baggage) is less expensive compared to another airline or in OP's case less time consuming than driving. For others considering Allegiant don't forget to compare how driving to/from the airport to catch Allegiant is different than driving to/from your home airport. For us, the Rockford airport is a little further, but free parking and less crowds is worth it compared to driving to Ohare or Midway.

another question - we plan to book our rental car through alamo - so we definately dont want a car without power locks etc so if we booked a mid size or so what kind of car can we expect?

I think we reserved a midsize car and when we you check in with Alamo they direct you to the midsize car section and you pick your vehicle. Sorry, I don't remember what our options were, but I think we went with a Chevy Malibu.
HTH a little, my memory is a little fuzzy since this was 3 years ago.

We are flying into Sanford in June. I found this link www.carrentalsavers.com from a poster on this sight. Take a look and see what rates you can find. I found a coupon code thru Budget for $199 a week for a 7 seat SUV with tax was $260. We have a family of 6 going. We had a minivan rented but saving 100 bucks is more money for Disney :). They have tons of coupons for all the major companies. It might be worth taking a look to see if you can save any money :) Best of luck.
