I am concerned about flying with my DD6. As a child I flew almost every summer. However, my most vivid memory is the flight which I spent my time with my head in my mom's lapping crying b/c the pressure was terrible. I really don't want to have to relive this scene with my own daughter! What tips/hints do you have to help ensure that the pressure doesn't do her in? Thanks!

I had this problem as a kid and even as a young adult. They must have done something to help with cabin pressure as technology advanced because not only does it not happen to me anymore, I haven't really seen it on the flights I've been on. I've been flying with my DD5, who has ear problems (tubes, twice) and she's never had a problem. As a precaution on take-off and landing, if your DD doesn't chew gum, bring some sucking candies for her. Also, I remember one time as a kid when it was really bad to me, the flight attendent brought me warm wet clothes to put over my ears and it seemed to help.

It should be okay.

Give her a decongestant about an hour before you fly. Then, either gum, or in my dd's case, a bottle of water. It's the act of swallowing that keeps the ears clear. WE just keep a bottle of water in the magazine holder on the seat bact in front of us...and then take frequent sips as the plane either ascends or descends. We haven't had any issues in years.

Thank you!!! In all my years of good trips, that one bad one just had me freaking out. The good news is that my mom is coming, so if all of your wonderful ideas don't work, she can deal with my DD :thumbsup2

I have horrible problems with my ears on the planes! I use the earplanes, but after reading here I think I am going to add a sudafed...does that really help. My kids last year didn't say a word, they loved it.

I flew with my dd 6 at the time, she has horriable allergies and asthma and I was very concerned. She did not have one bit of trouble, she was so excited about being on her first plan ride and that they showed shark tale on our trip helped. I will be traveling with her again in Aug. she will be 7 this time and I am not concerned about how she will handle the pressure I will be bringing chewing gum if she needs it.

Have fun

Decongestant works so do the earplanes( Sold at almost any local drugstore they are earplugs for kids they also make adult ones) and chewing gum! Also any type of lollipop! The chewing gum or lollipop usually work the best for our 7 year old who was 5 1/2 when we flew last!
