I know that some of the regulars here travel internationally. Do any of you have travel trips for flying into/out of Hong Kong? Traveling with prescription meds, etc. Already have read the airline's web site; China web sites on travel; but some of the info is conflicting.

It'll be a non-stop flight from Boston to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, with final destination being Shenzhen, China.

Personal experiences appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

:offtopic: P.S. Mods, if this isn't appropriate for this board, I apologize, and please move to where you feel is the right board. :flower3:

I have flown non-stop from Newark to Hong Kong. It was about an 18 hour flight and I dreaded it. It wasn't too bad. They fed us 3 times during the flight, I watched movies - which I usually don't and I slept some. The hardest thing was that they fed is "breakfast" before we landed which was about 5 AM our bodies time. By the time we got off the plane and collected our luggage it was 7 PM and dark. Our internal clocks were totally confused for about 2 - 3 days.
Hong Kong was our final destination so we did not go on into mainland China. We loved Hong Kong. It was very easy to navigate as all of the signs are in both English and Chinese and most folks spoke English. We were even comfortable navigating the train system
Have Fun

It will be no different than any other international destination. Just be prepared for a very long flight. Here is a link to information about bringing prescription drugs into China:

Q: Can I bring my medications to China and what is this process?

A: You may bring limited amounts of medications to China. We suggest you bring in limited amounts and have a prescription or medical certificate when bringing any prescription medication, controlled medication, stimulants, etc. to China. Please note that some medicines are difficult to obtain in China and it would be prudent to carry an adequate supply for your entire stay.

We have also provided you with a link to the State Food and Drug Administration for China for additional information regarding food and drug laws and regulations in China. (http://eng.sfda.gov.cn/WS03/CL0755/).

I have only been to Beijing and they didn't look at any medications I was carrying.

Do you have specific questions?

I flew from Hong Kong to Beijing and I had my small sissors confiscated. I had them in my first aid kit. I am talking small like cuticle sissors. There was a notice about no sissors but I had forgotten they were in my first aid kit. I told them to just go ahead and throw them out. My original flight was from LAX to Beijing I flew Air China and loved flying with them. Make sure you have all your paper work filled out before you queue up for customs. There were signs for foreigners and the lines moved pretty quickly. All in all not a bad experience.
