DH and I are disputing how long it takes to fly to Hawaii. Neither of us have ever been of course! LOL!!! Any ideas on how long it takes out of Chicago? Thanks

I don't think there's any direct flights to Hawaii from Chicago, so you'd probably be flying via California. Chicago to LA is about 4 1/2 hours, and LA to Honolulu is about 6 hours, so you're talking about 11 hours of flying time, plus layovers. :)

I respectfully disagree with JTB -- I think Hawaii is an incredible vacation destination (I'm partial to Maui myself :)) and something everyone should see at least once in their life. :)

Our flight there, nonstop on United (years back), was about 9 1/2 hours, return, nonstop, was a bit over 8.

I'll go with DAN's data. We flew nonstop from Honolulu to Chicago on the way back from our honeymoon:D . We left Hawaii in the early evening and got into Chicago around 7:00 A.M. ; my DW slept through the whole flight, but I was wide awake:( :( .....

There is no place in the USA better than Hawaii! I love all of the islands and it is well worth the flight time. The cost of the trip makes it a good use of frequent flyer miles and six of us have been twice for "free".

We went in April 1999 for our honeymoon. It took us 7 hours non-stop from Houston. Im hoping to go back for our 5 yr anniversary.
We were dead tired on the flight back but I couldnt sleep. The seats were to uncomfortable. I think next time we will give 1st class a shot, I think it would be a more pleasant 7 hours.

I used to go every year when I was a nanny, and it is between 8 and 9 hours depending on where you land (Honolulu or Kahalui, Maui). After years of going direct, one year we split the trip up with a stop in San Francisco and it was much nicer. It gave us a chance to stretch our legs and the kids could run around for a bit. As for Hawaii itself, IMHO, Maui is the absoulte best! Honolulu is nice but too much like a crowded city for a relaxing vacation. I hope you get to go (and for that matter, I hope I get to go LOL!!)!

Haha, well, I guess I'm too late in answering this question, I have LOTS of experience flying in and out of Hawaii since I live here!

United USED to have a direct flight, but they don't anymore. Has a lot of us locals a little peeved! It was about an 8 hour flight. I did fly from Orlando to Missouri and Missouri to here (American) and that took about 8 hours too. As a point of reference, it's between 4 hr. 45 min. and 5 hr. 30 min. between Hawaii and LA or San Fran. Getting to LAX/SFO is almost always faster because of a tailwind.

This is really great info. I am planning to take my mother to Hawaii as soon as she is well enough to travel and I was wondering how long the flight would be.

Thanks for asking this question, PRINCESS VIJA

from Bostons Logan airport it take approximetly 12 hrs. I hope someday I get to go there:D
