Flying Pig Marathon

I just registered for the Flying Pig Half. So I'm officially in. Krista- Thanks for the heads up on the early bird registration deadline.

Dave--that's great that you're registered! You're in now, for better or worse, right?

Since you're registered, now's probably a good time to tell you about the 600 foot incline from mile 1 to 2. They hand out rockclimbing shoes and a rope at the start line, though, so you should be good to go. :thumbsup2

Kidding, by the way (I just didn't want you to actually go back to the Flying Pig website to re-check the elevation map. :) )

:lmao: :lmao: Yup, I'm in for better or worse. Too funny Steve. BTW - do you prefer Steve or Stephen. I've noticed that Krista uses Stephen, but you sign Steve. After Melissa's comment, I'm trying to be sensitive to not using the wrong name.

Krista and her parents/my parents call me Stephen.

All of my friends call me Steve. I'm ok with either, but I hear Steve a lot, so I'm used to that.

I learned when I was still pretty young that most people think Stephen is pronounced "Ste-fen", which annoys the snot out of me, so I go with Steve. I still get it a lot when I hand my credit card to a cashier and they scan it, hand it back and say "Thank you, Stefen." :sad2:

And with a last name like Fulkerson, you're already doomed to the butchering of the name. I know Krista's so glad she went from a nice, normal name of Whitaker to something like Fulkerson. :)

I'm still harboring some resentment. ;)

I forgot to tell you, (hopefully everyone else will think this is funny or we are just talking to each other via the Disboards :) ) when I registered for the Pig, I typed my name as Krista Whitaker and I had to go back and change it. How long have we been married?? :lmao:

By the way, are we going to sport these things on our faces for the race...

Dont tell DH, because I haven't done it yet, but occasionally, when I'm really irritated, I have come very close to calling him by my ex's name. (we've been married 9 years, I've been divorced 12 years )

Do you mean the sunglasses?:confused3

...just kidding.

Sunny, it would be great to have you join our group. I'm excited, no... I'm REALLY excited about how this this little mini-WISH meet ain't looking so mini any more. How cool is that.:cool1:

As for the restaurant, seriously my wife and I are totally OK with anyplace you pick. I'm more excited about the company we'll be with than with the name on the restaurant.

Erica, I got your PM. I'll collect the cell #'s and PM out a list closer to the event.

Denny--I so agree! I am excited about our mini Wish meet. I don't care where we eat either, I'm happy with all those places. If we eat at Buca, maybe we'll get lucky enough to get the room with Pope John Paul's head in the middle of it! I've always wanted that room, but it's only for big parties.

Dave--Congrats for signing up!! It's official, you've gone hog wild! ;)

Uuum, whoa, what's up with the Pope sitting on your table while you're trying to eat??? That's a little on the freaky side... :clown:

Colleen- I really hope you can join us. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out for you. Maybe you can share a ride with Wendy, you both are coming from NC, right?

Meant to respond to this earlier. I know Colleen and I are sorta across the state from each other, but I'd be happy to give anyone a lift from central NC to OH. I'll be driving our minivan, leaving very early Friday (no later than 5AM), returning immediately after the half on Sunday. I can't help out with lodging, though, because I'm staying with friends this trip. I've made the drive before -- and its about like driving from home to FL (lonnnnnnng). If you're interested, Colleen, let me know and we can hammer out the details offline.

Look, I'm not particularly artistic, but I thought our Flying Pig WISH team needed a clippee. Has someone else already made one? If not, what do you think of this one?

The code is:

If it's not suitable, just tell me. As I said, I've never done this before.

Wendy, that Clippy is GREAT!!! I'm going to try to post it into my signature now!

Wendy,
That is awesome. I would have never connected the Flying Pig with Piglet.

Thanks

Thanks for the clippie, Wendy! I love it!!!!

ETA--Stephen and I are going to try to get downtown in the next couple of weeks and get some pics of the course. We went to Montgomery Inn Saturday night (sorry!) and saw the finish line area on Pete Rose Way, I was so EXCITED!!!!!!

I'm getting really excited about the Pig as well. It's the first time I've done the half -- I did the "full" Pig the second year (2000, I think) and had a blast! I still have a little video they made at the expo of a superimposed me "flying" over the course. I was really hamming it up. :rotfl: What a great souvenir! It's going to be great to see everyone there as well. Hope everyone's training is going well.

How serious are they about enforcing the "no headphones" rule? I'm really interested in driving over from Indy to join my WISH team for this one, but I don't do distance very well without some tunes. Thanks for your input.

CJ--On the Flying Pig website it says that if you use headphones on the course, you can be disqualified and removed from the course. I don't know if I would chance it!

CJ--just to add to what Krista said, I was surprised to read the strict no headphones rule on their website as well. As I think back on the course, though, I really don't remember seeing anyone with headphones, so they may be pretty serious about enforcing this one. The nice thing about the course is that there's quite a bit of entertainment between spectators cheering, bands, scenery, etc. There really aren't any stretches of long, boring highway like the later miles of the Disney full course.

Hope this helps.

Steve
