Flying Pig Marathon

CJ--just to add to what Krista said, I was surprised to read the strict no headphones rule on their website as well. As I think back on the course, though, I really don't remember seeing anyone with headphones, so they may be pretty serious about enforcing this one. The nice thing about the course is that there's quite a bit of entertainment between spectators cheering, bands, scenery, etc. There really aren't any stretches of long, boring highway like the later miles of the Disney full course.

Hope this helps.

Steve

We did the 10k last year and wore our iPods and ear phones and a few friends of ours wore theirs in the Full and the half.

If you wear phones, be good race citizens, leave them out till you are in the clear, if your bunched up you need to hear the other contestents who are trying to get by you. Even when you are clear make sure you are aware of your suroundings.

Of course you could just suck it up and leave them home and enjoy the natural high of the course and the crowd support.

Hi Dave!

I've asked questions in the past about the Half but their Half will remain in the future for us for a bit until we have the time and more importantly feel strong enough for the hills/distance combo ;)

I think your the first I've seen mention having done the 10K, how did you find the 10K course? Was there entertainment? I know the bridges and therefore inclines are also in the 10K (i spent Friday morning looking at their elevation charts LOL) but there is a leg on the KY side that is not on the Half or Full course, is that section more flat or hilly? Any other thoughts you'd like to share on the 10K?

I told Carrie yesterday (i'm also looking at the Grand Rapids half for the full but might change that now) in talking races that this thread was EVIL! :rotfl: You see I had written this race off yet again for another year or two due to wanting to get stronger, faster and of course if you haven't heard me whine lately Susan is graduating the day before the Pig Half/Full and minnie 15K. So here I sat reading this thread yesterday and somehow or another I found myself BACK on the Pig's site and low and behold saw the 10K listed. I had forgotten they had a 10K! So started the driving distance calculations and trying to remember when the ceremony was (Susan was busy at work so no answer *sigh*) and the back up that even DH could do the 10K :lmao:

In the end I decided you all (actually the whole team in general) were baaaaad influences on me  But I've decided the cure wasn't what I wanted ;)

Thanks Dave for any insight you can give into their 10K. If I can't make the PIG this year I will be at home on the edge of my seat thinking of our groups at the PIG and the Minnie weekends waiting for word of all the PRs I just know the team will make popcorn::

I had to edit to bring up the video of the course. They drove the course and you see the road and hear the description which I thought was the coolest thing ever! They just seem 1st rate to me for a race weekend that I can't wait for the day I can participate. So if you haven't checked the video be sure too. Very kewl!

Diane the 10K last year was a kind of blurr for Erica and I. I was having quite a few problems running because of an achillies problem coupled with a inflamed ITBand from favoring the leg with the hurting tendon. Erica was having issues with a bursitius of her hip. Both problems caused by running. This was before we decided racewalking would be a better idea for us.

But anyway, the course was nice, there are rolling hills but nothing to steep or long. You cross the bridges which is cool, we really enjoyed it. The weather the first week of May last year was pretty chilly, fine for the race but you need to have warmer clothes for after the race. Erica will also give her opinions after she wakes up. She is a weekend night Nurse so sleeps during the day.

Hope to see you there.

Dave:)

As slow as I move, sometimes the only thing that keeps me moving is those inspirational lyrics. Being left in the dust at the back of the pack is lonely. But I also have a player that doesn't need headphones which I use when I run the Indy Mini. I'll probably bring it along.

However, knowing Dave & Erica (my WDW'07 angels) are out there might just be all the inspiration I need.
