I can't believe how much it is to fly from Calgary to Orlando in September. Westjet is going to be $670 per seat round trip. We really want the direct flight home but maybe we'll need to find a different carrier to fly down with.

Any suggestions? We don't really have the option to fly out of the states but holy cow that's expensive! Plus Westjet doesn't really do seat sales anymore so we should probably book now before the price goes up anymore.

oh...keep checking. We fly out of Calgary or Edmonton (whichever is cheaper for our time frame) and let me promise you that the price will go down. Check EVERYDAY! The prices will sometimes drop unexpectedly. One day it could be $700 and the next, it will be $387 (like in my case:thumbsup2).

Consider flying with an American carrier. We were so against flying on an american provider because of the cost of checked bags, but now west jet charges for bags too, so really, it didn't matter anymore. We are flying with Continental and got an AMAZING price for our May trip. I know someone just left for their Orlando trip from Calgary, and they got a return flight for around $375 too. Be patient, they will happen. I have never flown to Orlando from Edmonton for more than $450.

Prices are definately higher this year. I fly out of Seattle and the price has almost doubled from what I paid last year. I don't normally purchase tickets for another month or two, but I don't know if they will drop.

So for fun I tried Kayak..which then pointed me in the direction of Delta.
Wasn't sure of your dates so I used Sept 6-13...$363 CAD taxes/fees inlcuded. Times aren't the greatest and there 2 stops each way but that's cheap! Next there's $468 (one stop down, 2 back).

Edmonton is worse. WJ has been keeping their prices higher than the other airlines. Particularly on the good flights.

I like supporting WJ but I find it frustrating when you see great direct flights out of the east on sale and only one direct flight out of Edmonton. Recently the prices out of Edmonton have been $20 - $50 each way more than Calgary even for flights that are basically the same.

We have been flying with the US carriers to US destinations and target under $400 return all in to Orlando. Connections through Houston & Denver are great. Avoid Chicago. MSP is also a good connection.

I know what you mean about flying out of Edmonton. My folks live up there so it's easy to fly from there as well but I threw that idea out the window when I checked the prices.

I'm really up in the air about flying direct or not. It's great for DW and I but that's a long trip for the two little ones. Connections would be alright for the little ones but it's a logistical nightmare sometimes especially if the connection is in Canada. I'll keep checking around.

The other wild card is that we want to do one seat on Air Miles points and the other two pay out of pocket so that could complicate things.

I have seen the Delta prices and was quite pleased with them! By the time all is said and done with Delta we could just save our Air Miles and still be ahead money wise as compared to Westjet. It's looking like ~$1500 for three seats (2 paid for and one free from Westjet). I could maybe pay for all three seats from Delta be around the $1500 and keep my Air Miles for another trip.

We usually fly on different carriers including US ones there and back to keep the costs down and improve our flight time choices.

We got our flights to Orlando in November last year around the beginning of June and paid $345 with all taxes included out of Calgary. I find that you can find really good deals around the $400 mark about 5-6 months out from your flight so keep watching. Good luck!:thumbsup2

If we really want the direct flight back should we book that now and then keep our eyes open for a decently priced flight down?

Also, do you know if Air Miles will let us fly down with one carrier and back with another? For example fly down with Air Canada and back with West Jet.

Do you have to do Air Miles for the flight? How about using the miles for park tickets instead? You have to pay the taxes on the flight and sometimes that is almost as much as the flight. You may be able to use two different airlines but I'm sure Air Miles will charge you and extra fee!

We are flying to Orlando in August from Calgary and we paid $337/ticket including taxes. We have 1 stop each way and we have 2 children DS 7 and DD who will be 17 months. I have flown a lot in the past and I know this is doable...frankly I'm more worried about their ears during take-off/landing than I am about the connection (I'm going to use the ear bud thingy's and I have a list of other things to try if it's a problem).

Anyways, I would keep looking and not be stuck looking for a direct flight. Look at overall travel time but be open to at least one stop (I think 2 is crazy though...I will never have another flight with 2 stops!). Try the travel websites as well as airline sites. Personally I LOVE travelocity because you get crazy deals there and there are multiple search options.

Good luck!

DEFINTELY! Consider using an american carrier, I was searching through Expedia, kayak, travelocity, etc, finding the cheapest airline and going through their website, I didn't know that you could book through american carriers, but ended up getting flights for $343.00 from Calgary to Orlando in May, and I bought them end of Dec.!

We agree about flying a US carrier ... we fly to WDW twice a year out of Edmonton and find that the US carriers are always cheaper than either WJ or AC ... unfortunately they don't always have a direct flight, but even with one stop over it's much cheaper than using either of our Canadian carriers.

ITA!!:scared1:

Right now my favourite flights for Nov on United and booked on Air Canada's site, which are usually around 300 bucks less than United, are over $900.00 ONE WAY from YEG!

UCK!

I booked on Delta this morning out of Calgary in November for $361 return with all taxes in. Delta let me chose our seats and our first bag is free. I am super happy about that price.:woohoo::banana:

I also found flights on United out of Seattle for my BC friends for $240 return with all taxes in. They are a family of 4 and their flights costs are under $1,000. They were super happy when I called them yesterday so they booked immediately.

We are staying 2 nights at Pop Century then moving to Grand Beach Resort for a week. I own a 3 bed/3 bath week every 2nd year at Grand Beach. I love having a timeshare!

My friends total hard costs for flights, car rental, accomodation is $1,500 for a family of 4. They are going to redeem Airmiles for their Disney tickets. It is so nice to be able to help my friends do Disney at such a reasonable price.:woohoo::banana::woohoo::banana:

That is a good price. Now that Delta is codesharing with Westjet hopefully prices will stabilize a bit. We are doing a business trip to Scottsdale at the end of the month and paid 469 tax inc:eek:
