Flying or Driving in Winter

I'm thinking about making my next trip to WDW in January to take advantage of cooler temperatures and low crowds, but the thought of travel in winter makes me nervous. Would it be better to fly, or drive? If we drive, I can pad in extra days for travel and hole up in a hotel if a storm comes by. If we fly, I have visions of being stuck on the plane for hours as they try to de-ice the plane.

Any winter travelers have advice on what I should expect either way?

wow that is a hard question, it really is 6 to 1 and a half dozen to the other. I have done both and have been stuck doing both!

As far as driving you are going south so going you have the advantage with you of probably driving out of most snow BUT going home you will be driving into it. Driving in a snow storm can double the time it takes if not more.

I have also been stranded in the Pitts. area for a couple days waiting on airports to clear and the stuck people to disperse, but again you will be flying south so it should help. Coming home could be a problem.

I guess I would just decide which form of transportation I would prefer and choose that. and take my chances. I would probably go with flying just to avoid the 20+ hour drive anywhere! in any weather. sorry but I don't think there is a clear answer.
