Flying on a plane while pregnant...

I will be leaving on Sunday for Florida and am flying from Rhode Island. I will be 28 weeks pregnant at that point...and I'm a little nervous about it...anyone else fly at this point in their pregnancy? Anything I should be aware of? Thanks

Ive flown many times while pregnant. With my youngest I even flew from CA-DC at 39 weeks. Ive always found it pretty uncomfortable. My stomach would get really tight and my hands/feet would swell a little but that was about it. Drink plenty of water and get up and move around a lot and you'll be fine

The good thing is that you are flying from RI and not from across country so your time in a plane is short. I would limit my sodium intake a day before the trip to avoid some of the swelling.

You should have no problems, but if you are concerned, you should consult your doctor.

Keep hydrated with water. Every hour get up and walk some every hour or so to minimize risk of blood clot in legs. Bring a healthy snack with you in case you get hungry. Flight is not very long.

I am asked a lot about being pregnant and going thru the body scanners at airport security. The government claims they are safe in pregnancy. If you are uncomfortable, you are allowed to request a pat down instead of going thru the body scanner.

Some airlines require a doctor's note to fly late in pregnancy.

I flew from VA to TX in 1983 while 27/28 weeks pregnant with my oldest DS and I had to change planes in Charlotte, NC. The only issue I had was when we started to descend, the baby pushed down on my bladder more than usual. Other than that, no issues at all. Pregnant women fly all the time.

We flew to Orlando January 2012 when my wife was about 34 weeks. Within 2 hours of landing we were at Celebration hospital and she had pre term labor. They stopped the labor and after staying there a couple nights we took the risk of flying again. At that point we just wanted to get back to RI....landed and needed to go to Westerly Hospital who wanted nothing to do with the pre term pregnancy and they sent her to Women and Infants for another couple days.

The last thing we wanted was a pre term birth in Orlando...flights back and forth would have been a pain in the ***.

It was a trip we never should have gone on, but our entire family was going so we felt we couldn't back out.

Every pregnancy is different and not trying to scare you, but in retrospect, at 34 weeks, it was a bad decision.
