flying monkey and todo

All the kids on the block decided to go with a Wizard of Oz theme for halloween this year and of course my kids pick todo and the flying monkies to be this year. Any other characters would be a whole lot easier! Does anyone know where I can get those costumes for a reasonable price?

DD was the lead evil flying monkey in her children's theatre production of "The Wiz" last year...the flying monkey costumes are hard to find - her company just took brownish sweat shirts and attached "wings" between the arms and the body. They wore worn, "dirty, cut off jeans...then put brown makeup on hands and did face makeup....

wizardofozcostumes has one but it is $80 - I have a feeling that is not what you had in mind!!! - you migh ttry calling local costume rentals - but do not know how expensive that option is.....

Toto was pretty much just a grey dogs costume....

(if you like flying monkeys....if you go to zazzle - they have awesome flying monkey t-shirt designs - I bought my DD one for rehearsals last year!!!!)

Most fabric stores have patterns to make those costumes for about $6...wouldn't cost much to get the fabric...and they usually have free "how to" classes to show you how to do it!

Thank you everyone for your help. I really wish the kids picked something easier. I can find every costume except the ones I need. I don't really want to spend 80+ dollars either.

this is stage makeup - so it is not as nice as you will want to do, but hopefully it will give you an idea of where to start. Two different performances - two different make-up jobs (parent volunteers do the make-up).

One cast, the moms had the girl monkeys do those little bun things on top of their heads to look like ears - sorry I don't know how to describe it better.....

edited: I just realized the pics are small and do not show much detail - I will ask DH about working on them some more tomorrow night!!!
