Anyone know if its a pain to fly in and out of Tampa and head to Orlando? Also does National have a location at the Tampa airport? I'm looking at their website and I can't tell.

Thanks!

Not a pain at all but you'll have an 80+ mile trip on an expressway where there is constant construction. Traffic moves well though. It will take less than 2 hours to get to the Disney exits in the Orlando area. I am pretty sure there would be a National car rental office at the Tampa airport. All this being said, if it's not much of a price difference, flying into Orlando might be a bit less anxiety ridden than flying into Tampa.

If you don't mind the drive, Tampa is a great airport to fly into. Been there a few times - sometimes the airfare is cheaper, but as twocat said construction can be tough and slow going.

The shuttle to National/Alamo is a short ride - they are pretty continuous.

HTH!!!! :teeth:

The construction has been on-going forever it seems. Lately there have been a few major accidents that have closed down the freeway for more than 2 hrs. That would be the only thing I would worry about, as far as getting back to the Tampa airport intime for your flight out. The traffic is horrendous getting into Tampa going 1-4 onto I-275 because of the construction jam up. And the construction is bad as you get closer to Haines City-Kissimmee 192 area.

I live in tampa. The airport is easy to get in and out of, but the ride to Orlando can be a real bear. I went to MGM a few weeks ago and it took 3 hours to reach HWY 27 and we eventually turned around and went home. Another time I was driving my grandparents from the Orlando area over to the Tampa Airport and gave myself 2 1/2 hours buffer to get them to their flight and again due to an accident they missed their flight. So unless you are going to save alot of $$ it may be in your best interest to fly into Orlando. :moped:

We just got tickets on Delta from BOS to TPA for October. The rate with taxes and all fees was $106 per ticket. That is a savings of $60 per ticket (x5 tickets). We decided that the drive was worth the $300 savings. Now to find a rental car at a good rate.

Thanks for the info!

We ended up making reservations to fly into Orlando but out of Tampa. We saved $400 by doing this (there are 8 of us traveling). We are still watching for specials and will switch back to Orlando if something good comes out between now and then. But if it doesn't, we were going to drive to Daytona and spend one night at the beach anyway, so now we're just going to the gulf instead and spending that last night in the Tampa area before going home.

Thanks again!

We are planning on flying into MCO, staying 9 or 10 nights in WDW then drive to Siesta Key (about 60 miles south of TPA) and stay there for one week. Then we are planning on flying home from TPA.

My question: Does anyone know if there is a kids play area in the TPA airport?
We are planning on using DME to get from MCO-WDW, then rent a car from the WDW car care center to drive to Siesta Key. Thanks for the info. on National/Alamo. I assume we will be renting from one of these agencies.
