We're flying into Tampa on a Friday and will head to Kissimmee from there. I read on this board that there is a lot of traffic and possibly construction on I-4... is that true? We'll be getting into Tampa at 1:04 in the afternoon and I figure by the time we get our bags and our rental car it will be 2 or after.
Is there a better route to take to Kissimmee?
How long of a drive is it from Tampa airport to Kissimmee?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Yes there is usually a lot of traffic. If it is this weekend with the hurricane coming who knows how the traffic will be.

If the hurricane shifts and moves towards Tampa then you will have lots of people coming to Orlando by way of I-4.

They are adding additional lanes to I-4. Traveling towards Orlando shouldn't be as bad on a Friday compared to a weekend.

Thank you for the reply!

We won't be going to Florida until October 1. I'm praying the hurricanes will all be long gone by then.:(

I've driven from Tampa to Orlando several times and the drive was usually an hour or 75 minutes at most.We went down August 21 and the drive was 1 hr and 45 minutes. The traffic was crazy a lot of volume with Charley refugees and contractors trucks.Good luck and have a safe trip.
