Hi!
Very excited to be planning a visit to Disneyland in December! I am a Disney World girl and have an annual pass there, so Disneyland will be a new experience.

Thinking of flying into San Diego and exploring that area for a day and then driving to Anaheim. Any experiences driving from San Diego to Anaheim? Any advice on that?

Any recommendations on places to stay in San Diego?

Yes, I've done it. My son also lives there and he does the drive all the time. Depending on which day you drive up, you might hit traffic. The times I've done it, it was fine. I either drove up in the middle of the day on a weekday (after typical rush hour) or I did it on a Sunday which was fine most of the day. It's really a decent drive BUT I am coming from a place on the east coast that probably has the worst traffic in the country so take what bothers me with a grain of salt, lol!

I've stayed in the following places in San Diego:

Liberty Station Marriott Townplace - very close to airport but not walkable. Free breakfast that is mid.

The U.S. Grant (Marriott) Downtown San Diego - right in the downtown business district. About a 20 minute walk to the harbor arear or Little Italy. Old Historic hotel, nice rooms, concierge type service, zero amenities though because of its location.

Hilton Homewood Suites Bayfront. Down the hill from Little Italy but you have to walk through a funky part to get there. I have seen the Disney Cruise Line park out front here. This hotel is popular with those on the Disney Cruise.

Marriott Residence In Bayfront/Harbor area-shares a building with Springwood Suites. Be careful if you're booking because there are 3 of these in close proximity. You don't want the downtown one. Very good free breakfast, nice hotel, right on the harbor, very walkable. You can see the Midway.

Embassy Suites, Downtown Harbor area--Right across the street from Seaport Village so walkable for sure. Great breakfast. Nice rooms.

Marriott Marquis - Very walkable, fantastic hotel, most people love this.

As I said, my son lives there but I travel there also for work hence the hotels listed and I also get a corporate rate. These hotels might not be affordable if you don't get that--I don't know. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'll reiterate that traffic can be a bear.

I've never done it but a friend takes Amtrak from SD to Anaheim then rideshare to the parks.

@Busylady I didn't realize you had two threads with the same question. The Community Board is generally used for games and chit chat while the main Disneyland board is used for trip planning. I would close this thread and use the other one instead.
